We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amanda Aaron. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amanda below.
Alright, Amanda thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Learning about photography is a never ending commitment. Youtube videos, practice, and even photography classes are just some of the avenues I have used to get where I am today. In the past, I utilized natural lighting and outdoor scenes. More recently I invested in studio lighting and set ups to add variety and more services to my scope The most essential skill is adaptation and growth. Photography is ever changing and improving. The challenge is keeping up.
Amanda, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Amanda Aaron. I’m a full time nurse and have been at Parkland Hospital for over 10 years. My high school sweetheart and I married and have been blessed with two amazing children. Hobbies are my thing. I make candles, quilts, and any thing else YouTube can teach me. Photography is the hobby that has been consistent throughout my life. Early memories include taking our disposable cameras to get developed and being so excited to see what I captured. Later in life, the yearbook committee was a big influence in my photography career. Capturing a worthy moment was what kept me interested. The big moment where I began to be a “professional” was when my daughter was 18 months old. Having a hard time finding a photographer that met all my needs was a challenge so I stepped into that role. Since then, I have snowballed into what Sweetbos Photography is today. Sweetbos Photography is primarily focused on families and kids. Providing other services such as headshots, wedding coverage, and maternity/newborn shoots, I shoot it all. Excitement, is the one word I would hope describes my services. I aim to be calming and have a stress free shoot for everyone. Being affordable and timely are also goals I have for my photography business. My reviews from my clients make me proud to be a photographer. I always want to exceed expectations. The ultimate reward for me is seeing my photos in people’s homes, on their mantels, in their shops, on their phones or social media. Mantel worthy photography means that you did something right especially in today’s times of most of our photos being on our phones.
To anyone that is wanting to book with me I would want you to know I make the shoot as enjoyable as possible. Most clients say I put them at ease during the shoot. I work around children and help them to feel comfortable and inspire them to participate. Being affordable and having a timely turnaround are two other factors of my work.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Social media plays such a huge role in booking clients. Reaching a large number of people, I can post in a group and book out an entire day of mini shoots. A reel can be so sentimental and heartwarming when you add music and attach beautiful photos. Some of these reels can reach people that would have never even heard of me or my photography before. Above all else, my returning clients and those who have been recommended by clients in past are in the majority. When a family or client comes back for multiple shoots it solidifies the fact that I have met their expectations.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
It would be interesting to get my clients to comment on how they see me. I hope that they see me as energetic, easy to get along with, and creative. Posing isn’t something that just comes natural. Telling a family do whatever feels good usually ends with them looking at each other in a puzzled way. Encouragement posing is what I like to do with my clients. Even lifestyle photography which is supposed to be the most natural needs some encouragement. Assisting the clients into different poses and trying creative options I believe helped me build my reputation. Other factors that clients mentioned before are the turnaround time of the photos and the affordability they receive with me.
