We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amaja Austin. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amaja below.
Alright, Amaja thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
When I very started my business in my high school years my original name was Sisters of Kolour. I wanted to let other women of color know that everyone is accepted and beautiful. It was a group project where we created our own business based on our passion. At that time my passion was lashes. When I got to college I saved up as much money as I could and took a lash course, and was officially certified.
Women are challenged everyday for how they present themselves, and I made it my job to help fix it. I deal with PCOS, and a lot of women struggle to show that side of them. I know how it feels to be ashamed of my flaws. I decided to enroll into beauty college and got my esthetician license. I revamped my business and later changed the name to The Enhancement.
The Enhancement main purpose is to enhance the beauty within, we want to allow you to embrace your natural beauty. We provide a wide variety of services, such as full body waxing, facials, lash extensions, and future services will be enlisted.
We have also have added a connector to The Enhancement named Amaja Maree Cosmetics. We provide a variety of nude lip glosses, and lip liners. We are currently working adding more colors and new products in the future.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Amaja Maree Austin, am a 23 year old entrepreneur. I am a licensed esthetician for about 2 years and have been a 2 times certified lash technician for 3 years.
I have been inspired by my mother from the start of my business . My mother different breast cancer the year of 2015. I was a freshman in highschool still learning the ins and outs of life.
It was hard seeing my mother lose hope in herself, dealing with fear and pain. She watched her closest friends, love of her life, and job leave her at her lowest moment in life.
She inspired me to never give up on yourself. Believe that you are strong and capable of anything you put your mind to. She is the strongest, and bravest woman I can call as a mother.
I provide a wide variety of services that enhance our inner beauty. I want ladies to believe they have the potential to show the real them. I’m here to enhance this opportunity. I’m proud of this woman I have became, and I can’t wait to share this potential and happiness with other women.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I was able to build my audience by thinking outside of the box and being me. I love to be the loud one out the group, meaning being different and bright.
I chose to do fun and creative lash sets, especially during holidays. For Halloween, we did a beetle juice theme including purple, green, and white colored lashes. It was so cute and festive and definitely grew a big audience.
The advice I would share with other entrepreneurs in the beauty industry, or just in general is to just being yourself. This will get you a long way. Being authentic, and find a passion in your business.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I always make sure my clients are safe and secure, but most importantly comfortable. When clients book I always send a thank you message and give them a brief statement giving them information about there appointments. This will inform your clients that they are welcomed.
