We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ama. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ama below.
Ama, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I’ve always been attracted to draw since I was a little, and I used to draw pictures for my friends when I was students. Also I loved reading Manga, and I had dreamed to be a Manga artist when I would become adult. But as I grew up, I learned how tough to be a Manga artist. Only few people would be success. So I gave up my dream and quit drawing at the same time, Then I started to work at a restaurant as a waitress. However. I knew it was not what I wanted to do. One day my friend told me if I like to be creative, I should become a nail artist. At that moment I was seeking for something that could be my passion, and I started to go to a nail art school. But at first, I didn’t like it too much because all they taught me was just basic techniques. But one day my friend asked me to paint Ariel from A Little Mermaid in Disney on her nails, It was an interesting challenge. I painted Ariel with hand-painting directly on her nails. It took me a while to do them. But when I finished, I I felt so satisfied by seeing my friend’s reaction. Since then, I set up my mind to be a nail artist who is outstanding in hand painting.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m very good at hand painting, and I can paint character arts in detail with quality . I also like to paint portraits of people and pets, I don’t just do painting as close to the reference pictures, I would like to add a few arrangements to make them fun and artistic. Such as adjusting the color of the paintings to client’s skin tone or putting rhinestones.
In the past making a complex art took so much time and I felt sorry to clients to make them sit still for such a long time. But now clients can send the pictures to me a week in advance, and I could make hand painting nail stickers before they come to the salon. It shortens the time a lot, Nos my clients did not have to stay in the salon for a long time.
I’m also good at making extensions as well, and it can make nails shape looks great. I really recommend it to people who want to change their natural nail shapes.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
As a nail artist we always have to work in face to face with our clients. We get their direct reactions both good and bad. Obviously at times I do not get good reactions and it make me to think about what I should have done to make their manicure better. Of course many times, I get good reactions too. Those good reactions make me really happy to be a nail artist. For my clients to like their manicures. That is my passion and it leads me to learn new techniques and make clients happier.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
These days SNS has become so big, We could literary learn everything from YouTube or something like that for free. Even some artists learn on line and get licenses in a short period of time. I couldn’t imagine anything like that when I was in nail school. Nowadays we can learn new techniques from abroad instantly, We can check what is the trendy design right now. There are many amazing designs come up on SNS, which is so much fun. I wish I could have had that in my early days.
