Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alyx Coble-Frakes. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alyx, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
In 2018 I started my health coaching company. It was a wild ride, and often pretty hard. A mentor of mine recommended that I track my sales conversions, and when I did this- I saw that I had the highest sales conversions during my ovulation phase. I had learned about cycle syncing by then (changing what we eat or how we exercise for the four phases of the cycle) but I hadn’t heard people talking about it for the world of work. When I uncovered this connection in my data set, I wondered what else was easier or harder for my work and business depending on when I did it in the menstrual cycle. Turns out – everything! I wanted a guide to show me how to plan with the four phases, and when I didn’t find it on the market we set out to make a planner to help you plan your business with your cycle. It has been a wild ride ever sense!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
After my early aha’s, I wanted to test the idea with other people. So we ran a beta test in 2019 with 100 other women in business. This helped craft the framework for the original Agenda. Planner. After the planner was created, we got asked by customers to make an app. So the Agenda. Is a planning framework and mobile app that helps you understand your unique cycle, and work with it to increase your productivity and improve your health.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I am what they call a non-technical tech founder. AKA – I have no coding or tech experience. It is the reason that the first version of The Agenda. was a planner. I had no desire whatsoever to create an app. In fact, I was completely against it.
The thing about building a business is that you do so to serve a need. You do so because it solves a problem that people are looking for. So although the planner was well received, woman after woman told me that their planning needed to include an electronic component. Something with reminders because their life was too busy and too hard to keep track of.
If I had refused to listen we would have missed out on something very important. The pivot to tech was a huge stretch for me personally and emotionally. I didn’t think I had what it took- and there have still been plenty of mistakes made. But I am glad that I didn’t let my own stuff get in the way of supporting real people looking for answers.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
The very first capital to fund this business came from a Kickstarter campaign in 2019. Folks believed in the mission and helped us to get it off the ground. We raised enough to print the first copies of the planner as well as to go to events. It was awesome!
