We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alyssa Vernon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alyssa below.
Alyssa, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
Long after I’m gone, I hope to be remembered as the woman who remembered and cared. I want people to say she remembered every detail and put them into her work to make the most memorable, emotional, nostalgic, and intense product for her clients.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started filming and editing my senior year of high school. One thing I always noticed about myself is that I had a hard time articulating my thoughts and feelings, but I could envision those thoughts and feelings visually in my head. When I was gifted my first camera and realized I could express myself however I wanted with this tool, it really sparked the passion to create visual stories. Although I mainly film weddings, which I love because… I love LOVE, I also enjoy having the opportunity to do fashion, social media, and business related content as well. I love to be the storyteller and living mood board for my clients. When they want to convey a message but they aren’t sure how, I bring my thoughts and ideas to the table. We bridge the gap between thoughts and real life.
I am most proud of my attention to detail and the genuine care I put into my work. I take everything I do so seriously, and I pay attention to everything that is going on at all times, so my clients can have special moments they didn’t even know they needed or missed. It’s a huge part of being a story teller.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
One thing I love about being involved in the wedding industry is the opportunity to keep in touch with clients. As a wedding vendor, you are a part of one of the, if not the, most important days of their lives. A lot of times we connect on social media, and I love interacting when they post the film I created for them, on anniversaries, or throw backs. I always make sure to thank them for trusting me enough to capture their day. I think just showing that I care creates that relationship in loyalty, it is always mentioned when they recommend me to the next person.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is seeing your ideas come to life, having others receive it well and / or think deeply about it. Being understood is one of the best feelings in the world. A time I can recall this was the film I did for my senior thesis in college – having such a large audience see and relate to my most private moments in life that I interpreted in the film, and then thank me for creating it, was one of the best feelings in the world. To be able to complete own what you create, and it be the product of your own mind, makes it so personal when someone else gets it.
