We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alyssa Rossi. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alyssa below.
Alright, Alyssa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Meaghan and I were fast friends, or soul sisters as we like to refer to ourselves. In March of 2019, we were celebrating her birthday and she mentioned that she had spoken to a local shop owner who was going to be moving out of her space and Meaghan had mentioned she always wanted to open a baby/kids store in Arvada where there has never been a baby boutique. We both worked in retail before, but never owned. We first decided we needed to come up with a name for our new store if we were going to go through with it. Meaghans sister had passed away 5 years prior unexpectedly. She ran a daycare in Michigan called Little by Little. She was also in the process of writing a children’s book by the same name. In honor of her sister, we decided to name our store Little by Little Boutique. We designed our logo, website, and started curating our store and in a short 2.5 months we opened out doors! Our desire and goal is to feature Unique, Handmade, Eco-Friendly/Organic, and High Quality products from Local Makers as well as Makers around the US. Shopping with us is truly a unique and personal experience, and we love being part of the Olde Town Arvada community!
Alyssa , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We pride ourselves on offering local, handcrafted, unique products that are organic and eco-friendly. We work with small makers from all over the US and in Canada.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
We opened out small business 9 months before Covid hit in March of 2020 forcing us to close our doors for a few months. At this point we did not have an online store platform. In 24 hours we put an online store together and started shipping all over the US and doing local delivery and pick up for items from the shop. It didn’t meet our normal sales goals but it was better than zero!!! We did qualify for an EIDL SBA loan to help us cover expenses, etc during that time and we survived!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Since we opened in 2019, so much has changed in our little Olde Town area of Arvada. Two women/gift boutiques have closed their doors, and we are now deciding that we are going to expand beyond the baby/kid products and start carrying clothing, jewelry, and local goods for adults too. We are excited for this new venture and know that it will add value to our community and shoppers that frequent our area and store.
