We recently connected with Alyssa Nurdin and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Alyssa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you share a customer success story with us?
I decided to do a customer testimonial because I had one girl that started to support my business from the moment I opened my store front. Her name is Cassidy. I am a huge people person. The whole reason I started my business is because I want to help women feel like their most confident self. If I can help them find an outfit or just one item that makes them feel like a million bucks then I have achieved my goal. When I first met Cassidy she was was excited to shop and loved everything we had. She said she loves supporting small business and that she shopped at another one other one for years. I loved that! I ask Cassidy why she continues to come back and shop with us. She told me a touching story about a time she went to this same boutique to look around and the owner came in a little frazzled. She didn’t know what was going on but she didn’t say a word to anyone shopping in her store. Cassidy said it made her take a step back because the owner was so off putting. She mentioned that every time she comes into Love Lyss its like shopping with your good friend. “I have my go to stops when I am looking for something to wear out. I can always count on Love Lyss to have something I will love!” We are always will to help, we care about our customers regardless of our own personal things, and I make the customers feel like I really care. One time she was shopping in the store and another woman came in at the same time and had a baby with her. No stroller or carrier. She really needed to find something for her husbands upcoming Christmas party. “Alyssa could see she was struggling to look so she literally took the baby and was playing with him on the floor.” She wanted the mom to be able to be at peace and shop!! Cassidy is one of my absolute favorite people and is so kind to always share us on social media. She tells everyone in Fort Worth about my little business. I truly don’t know what I would do without these kind of people.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I have always been into fashion. Ever since I was little I would go shopping with my mom and her twin sister. I would even draw in my journal outfits I would come up with in my head. Like I was some kind of fashion designer at the age of 7! I loved watching project runway with my mom. I’d go to my play room and act like I was competing on the show on a weekly basis. Fast forward to high school I would alway have my friend want me to style them. When they would come sleepover they would usually want to borrow my clothes or want me to do their makeup. Same thing carried over to my girlfriends in college! I loved it! It would bring me so much joy to see my friends walk out of my room feeling like they just won the lottery I would give away every piece of clothing just to give someone that feeling of confidence. So moving into adult like I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do. I worked in the oil and gas world and was no happy. My husband Hunter along with family helped give me the courage to pursue my true dream. I am so lucky to have such great family that help me out around the shop. They are always in and out or helping me work! I truly dont know what I would do without them. I wanted it to feel different and be different from any other place in Fort Worth. I wanted my family to be here and also give back in our community. Every month we donate to a local women shelter called SafeHaven. It is a safe place for women and their children to escape domestic violence. This hit home for me when looking for a place to give back to because people close to me have suffered from this. I hope I can help make a different in the community and in peoples lives by making them feel beautiful inside and out!

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I very first started all I did was pop ups. We did them all in the DFW area. I applied to Christmas in Cowtown which is a big deal here in Fort Worth for shopping! I applied to get in and prayed to God that I was accepted. As soon as I got the email, I was instantly terrified… But also so excited! I had no idea how much inventory to buy for that show. Was business going to pickup at my store after? Will I have enough stuff to fill my booth? I had so many emotions happening. I needed to expand in more store because we had so much more than we had ever had before. So it was almost like we grew over night. It was really great and we have customers still that come in from that show. We definitely bought way more clothes then we needed. It has been hard moving from one season to another having so much extra stuff. It is not east trying to market stuff that is now out of season. So we now have to find a way to get rid of the stuff we have and not put it in back stock to sit. Its all a learning experience!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
There have been so many days where I question if I am in the right place. It is not easy starting a business in general. Starting a business in Covid was rough. Then having an economy like we have today is another challenge. Trying to find that line of how to be compassionate to those that are going through it and also keeping my business up and running. Honestly putting my trust in God is what has helped me push through. Every time I start to have my doubts, there is something that will happen to show me I am doing something right. Whether that be a comment someone makes, a text from a customer about stuff they bought, or a big sale! God is the reason I have resilience.
