Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alyssa Lauren Stone. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Alyssa Lauren thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I left my six-figure sales career with no plans for what was next. Although tech sales paychecks were nice, I was utterly miserable by the end. I was burned out to the point where I was balding, experiencing panic attacks, and insomnia due to work stress.
So I took a risk and left what was once my dream career. The only thing I knew for certain was that I needed to follow my childhood dreams of becoming a writer while taking better care of my health. I had zero plans of becoming a yoga teacher, but life has a lovely way of unfolding when you start following what makes your heart sing.
I took classes and workshops to improve my writing, and eventually enrolled in yoga teacher training. Yoga and meditation had always been a big part of my life, so it made sense that I wanted to teach these tools after being a student and practitioner for over 17 years.
In the three years since leaving tech, I have become a full-time yoga teacher and freelance writer with bylines in large media publications. I founded Marvellous Mage, a health and wellness company, which offers weekly classes, workshops, and retreats to help corporate and urban communities cope with life’s many challenges.
Eventually, following my passions also led me back to my first love: piano and music. I began learning to play various percussion instruments to facilitate popular sound baths in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Yes, it is scary to be an entrepreneur, navigating an endless sea of unknown waters. However, it’s the very techniques that Marvellous Mage offers: yoga, meditation, breathwork, Reiki, and sound therapy, that have allowed me to ride life’s many waves.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I spent the first two decades of my professional career in sales and business development as a tech executive, so I know what it’s like to be under immense pressure. Being in corporate sales is one of the most stressful jobs I know. Your performance is constantly being measured, and it’s easy to judge since you have clear revenue goals. My sales targets were often in the millions of dollars! That pressure took a heavy toll on my health, which is how I found yoga, meditation, breathwork, Reiki, and sound therapy in the first place.
When I decided to leave the corporate world, I had zero plans of becoming a yoga teacher or wellness practitioner. By continuing to practice yoga and meditation regularly and learning how to control my fears, it clicked that I needed to share my wisdom. I spent almost two decades immersing myself in all of these holistic practices. I studied with some of the best teachers and experienced transformational healings with incredible practitioners. What better way to pay it forward and give back to my communities than to share what I have learned and embodied for decades?
I founded Marvellous Mage to fulfill my mission of delivering deep and meaningful health and wellness programs to diverse communities. Our goal is to provide high-quality teachings that honor and respect ancient lineages, helping people navigate the challenges of modern life.
What’s makes us different is we teach from our own lived experiences. Our educators and therapists are passionate about their work. As a classical pianist and musician, for example, I know the advantages of understanding music theory to facilitate sound therapy. That is why we only hire qualified educators who have deep knowledge and expertise in yoga, meditation, breathwork, Reiki, and sound therapy.
Having been a consumer of wellness programs for the last two decades and now a full-time teacher for the last three years, we know how to curate the best offering for our communities.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Practice what you preach. Even in the health and wellness industry, I’ve sometimes come across the competitiveness and rudeness that I experienced working in the corporate world. Sadly, it’s because folks don’t necessarily spend the time doing the work, the Sadhana, or spiritual practice, even if they teach or offer it.
If you’re in the wellness space and helping others grow and evolve, you have an even greater responsibility to work on your demons. The work never ends, no matter how enlightened a teacher or healed a practitioner you become.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I do my best and show up. Whether I’m teaching a free community class or leading a retreat, my work ethic remains solid. I plan all my classes. I show up early. I strive to build community and go out of my way to help others. This is the same attitude I look for when I hire teachers who represent my company.
As someone who believes in high-quality education, I also ensure that our teachers possess the proper experience and qualifications. In a world of influencers, it’s very easy to fool people with fake followers and phony certifications. I hold the same high standard I hold for myself when hiring others. This means being able to spot people who live and breathe what we teach versus someone who just does it for the clicks.
