Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alyssa Lajoie. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alyssa, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
The way The Little Haven actually came into fruition all began quite a while ago. I got into Massage Therapy to eventually become an entrepreneur, but once I graduated Massage school, I realized that wasnt as easy as it sounded. So while I worked for many other establishments, I dreamt up what I would want my own business to look like. I sat down and asked myself what my main goal was. The most important detail to me was how I wanted my clients to feel while they were in my space, I knew that would be the inspiration behind my business. The word that I kept coming back to was the word, safe. I want to be able to deliver quality body work of course, but more than anything I want to provide a place of momentary refuge for people. I spent months building up a business plan, a name, a concept, and exactly what I wanted my business to look like, and it sat in my back pocket until I found the right space.
When I found the space that I am in now, I knew it was the right time to go for it. So within two weeks I registered my business, built an online presence, a system for my clients, and started building clientele. It all happened so fast, but the way everything fell right into place just confirmed I was doing exactly what I was meant to. The Little Haven has been a safe space for many people already. A place of healing, self care, and restoration. I cant wait to see what continues to unfold on this journey of entrepreneurship!
Alyssa, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Alyssa Lajoie, and I have been a Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist for 3 and a half years. I had just moved to Asheville, NC when the pandemic hit. I was in my third interview for a sales job that I had been counting on when the lockdown began. This closed the door on my sales job opportunity, so I decided to take a new direction with my career. I have always been passionate about wanting to care for people and holistic health, so I dove head first into the world of Massage Therapy, and quickly realized how much I loved it. I had never had a job before that I was actually passionate about, and for me this was a game changer.
With Massage Therapy, I genuinely care about providing the best service I can to my clients. There is so much to learn in this industry, so I feel like I am always discovering new ways to grow and get better at what I do.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for me has been Facebook. There is a community Facebook group where my business is located, and I have had so many people come and support me through there. It has been so encouraging to see, and I never thought I would be so thankful for Facebook!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I suppose the lesson I have learned through entrepreneurship. I let so much time go by and talked myself out of so many great ventures in life, just by being scared. Being scared is okay, its normal, but I am learning to continue on and do it anyway. Do it afraid.
