We recently connected with Alyssa Hariprashad and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Alyssa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
My path to becoming a pelvic floor physical therapist began with a love for anatomy and teaching, sparked by encouragement from my mom and a high school teacher. I earned my undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from the University at Buffalo and went on to receive my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the New York Institute of Technology. During PT school, a professor introduced me to the pelvic floor specialty—a field I’d never heard of before—and I quickly became passionate about its unique role in supporting bladder, bowel, and reproductive health. After gaining experience in orthopedics and pelvic floor therapy, I was laid off during the COVID-19 pandemic. That challenge led me to create a blog and Instagram page focused on pelvic health education, which became a creative outlet and a way to connect with others. Eventually, with the encouragement of a mentor, I founded Blossom Pelvic Health—my own practice where I could deliver care on my own terms. Now, I focus on providing individualized, holistic treatment in a space where patients feel heard, supported, and truly cared for.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Pelvic floor therapy can be a tough topic to talk about, but as a Doctor of Physical Therapy specializing in this field, I’ve embraced these vulnerable conversations to help my patients feel seen and supported. When I founded Blossom Pelvic Health—a boutique practice in the heart of Manhattan—I set out to create a space that feels warm, safe, and inviting. Patients often describe the environment as “a warm hug,” and that’s exactly what I hoped for: a place where difficult topics feel normalized and healing can truly begin. My approach goes beyond the physical; I take a holistic view, addressing not just the body but also the mind and nervous system. By blending clinical care with genuine connection, I help my patients understand their bodies more deeply and support them in long-term healing.

Have you ever had to pivot?
COVID-19 was a turning point in my career. After being laid off, I initially returned to full-time work, not even considering the idea of starting a business. But everything changed when I began working with one of my best friends, who saw something in me that I hadn’t yet recognized. She encouraged me to start my own pelvic floor therapy practice, believing that my unique approach to patient care would truly thrive in a business of my own. Starting a company had never been on my radar, but in 2021, I took the leap—and it completely shifted my path. With her support and my growing confidence, I launched my own business and have been grateful for that decision ever since. This doesn’t mean I don’t have hard days. Every business owner has hard days, but I really love the flexibility I have to create my own schedule and treat patients how they deserve to be treated (with increased quality and without a time constraint).

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I’m proud to say that my reputation has been built almost entirely through word-of-mouth referrals. Rather than relying on traditional marketing materials, I’ve found that simply showing up, being myself, and taking meetings—no matter the outcome—has been the most powerful way to grow. My personal motto is “take the meeting,” because you never know who you’ll connect with or how that relationship might evolve. Even if a professional relationship doesn’t form immediately, I often keep those contacts in mind for future referrals. For me, genuine connection and relationship-building within the community is the most valuable form of marketing—and it’s what has truly helped my business thrive.
