We recently connected with Alyssa Gruber and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Alyssa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
It is always a big decision when deciding to start one’s own business venture. In the wellness space there’s certainly a lot of different avenues to take; whether it be more esoteric wellness, or more traditional psychological wellness. I created my practice to be able to offer clients bespoke services, which included both eastern and western modalities.
I think that most early founders can get caught up in issues that are more ‘cerebral’ than literal-getting caught in anaylis paralysis. Whether or not the market is saturated, or others have done what you think about doing-you are unique human being with a unique offering. Every single day, in the early inception of my private practice, I had very positive self-talk about the uniqueness of my services which was relentless.
I also was able to learn along the way in regards to marketing branding, and client engagement. Any residual self-consciousness about “selling,” my services had to be resolved quickly so that I did not hamstring myself and miss opportunities.
Starting my own practice was the best thing I’ve ever done, inasmuch as it affords me both agency and autonomy. I enjoy working with a diversity of clients, whether they be corporate or personal. I like having the bandwidth and freedom to create programming and activations as I see fit. Entrepreneurship is not for everybody, but it is most certainly for me.

Alyssa, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am trained as a psychologist with an undergraduate degree in psychology to masters degree in psychology and doctoral matriculation in psychology. Over the course of my 25 year career, I have worked with individuals who experienced trauma addiction and myriad mental health disorders. I have also run addiction treatment center programs, Hospital programs, and worked at shelters for at risk individuals. Additionally, I have worked with high functioning, CEOs and celebrities, and as much as they are people too, and often have more problems than one might think from public view.
I have lived all over the world and have studied eastern medicine and philosophies as a complement to my traditional psychological training. I am also a certified meditation teacher with corporate clients who engage me for group in staff activations. I am also an executive coach to early founders and pivoting CEOs.
my brand is inclusive, compassionate, and highly expert with testimonials to that end

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
in today’s world, where the optics on peoples brands are so visible, I think, authenticity integrity and consistency are key pillars and building reputation. By keeping our word, offering consistently expert resource and operating with transparency I have grown my reputation such that most of my new business at this stage is referral-based this is a wonderful compliment, my existing marketing, because vetted clients are approaching me FaceTime with my other clients have shared.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
The vicissitudes of work can be incredibly grueling if there’s not sufficient support. So what does support look like, one might ask… support means getting to know staff and understanding their key metrics for engagement. Everyone has different interior, motivations and work styles, and learning what feeds the fire of each employee and team member is requisite for cohesion as leader I operate with transparency, authenticity, and again consistency, which allows staff to feel safe and heard. A diverse and collaborative environment is one in which success is born.
