Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alyssa & Evelyn Almeida. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alyssa & Evelyn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
As we were thinking through names, Zinnia’s just came to us and really made sense. First it’s a beautiful name and it’s the name of a flower which is awesome! But the biggest thing was that it was the name of our great grandmother. Our dad always shared stories of her and all the adventures they went on and he loved spending time with her. So it was a perfect name for our business.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Growing up we always knew we wanted to start our own business. Our grandparents and parents were entrepreneurs so we were always surrounded by the idea of working for your self. Throughout middle school and high school we tried many different business endeavors but nothing really stuck. We finally found something we loved and were both passionate about once we both had graduated from high-school. We loved the idea of doing something mobil and we love flowers so we decided to combined the two. We love seeing the joy people experience when they build their bouquets!

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
It can be scary starting a business, especially when it comes to money. We had been working for a couple of years so we each had a good amount of money saved. We put almost all that money into the initial start of the business. Are biggest investment into the business was the truck.

How did you build your audience on social media?
We had a sweet friend take amazing branding photos for us that really fit who we are and what we wanted to portray. We had friends share our posts and stories of where we would have our popups and it just took off from there. People would see us on the street and follow us. People needed to follow us to see where our next popups would be and so many people took photos of our flowers and truck and tagged us on their post. Our account grew faster than we even expected. We have done collabs with people too.
