We recently connected with Alyssa Chamberlin and have shared our conversation below.
Alyssa, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s something you believe that most people in your industry (or in general) disagree with?
One controversial stance I take is that most “food” isn’t actually real food anymore. In the fitness industry, there are soo many different perspectives on food. What’s healthy, what isn’t, what labels and standards and guidelines to follow – or not. With so many options and ideas out there, I get it – it’s overwhelming and sometimes easier to just pick a certain diet or just count macros and be done with it. What I have found, though, is that the quality of food matters as much as the quantity and type of food. I believe that the only food that is real food is animal products and plant products in their most original form as possible. For example, a 100% grass fed and finished organic ribeye steak; a pasture raised egg; fresh parsley; raw, grass fed butter; fresh organic broccoli; organic, non GMO oats; etc. These real foods are not overly packaged, overly processed, or morphed into shelf products that last for months, but are perishable, as fresh as possible, and as true to original form as possible. This is a shift I have my clients focus on and it makes a huge difference, whether clearing up skin issues in as little as five days or reducing excess fat in fat cells without changing anything else.

Alyssa, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I created this business and my coaching model/program because I saw a gap. I was coaching fitness and seeing people attend classes for years without really improving their physique. And in a totally separate business I was coaching clients in nutrition and seeing them remain inactive or not focused on movement. I realized we all need a little support merging those two worlds – health (nutrition) and fitness (exercise). We need it to be a lifestyle, an internal identity shift, to make it last through all life seasons. I am so passionate about helping people create that shift in a way that will transform their entire lives, not just the 3 to 12 months that we work together.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I genuinely love my clients. Because we work so closely together in my program, I get to know them very well early on. I love celebrating them when they enroll in my program by sending a welcome gift box. I celebrate birthdays and we have a very personal relationship where my clients have direct access to me by phone. This has helped build trust and rapport and I know they would trust me with any of their family or friends who may need a coach.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn small thinking and scarcity thinking about money. For years I was thinking small, playing small, charging small. That meant what I offered was of less value, I held my time and resources tightly, and I attracted clients who wanted to stay thinking small too and give smaller levels of commitment to themselves. When I began to invest in myself and my business by working with my own coaches, I realized the incredible return you receive when you invest in yourself. I saw what I had been missing out on before. I was able to translate that into my business and into my clients’ lives. Understanding generosity, getting back to tithing (giving back) off of my own profits, and taking risk expanded not only my own finances and return but also my mindset. I was able to charge more – which is really what I am worth – and got my offer up to industry standard. This allowed me to become more specialized, more highly involved with each client, to go above and beyond, and (most importantly) get my clients better, faster results.
