We recently connected with Alyssa Booth and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Alyssa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
I started my practice in the summer of 2021. After realizing that no one was looking out for me other than me, in the workforce, I decided to take a leap and it was the best decision ever!
My biggest learning curves was making sure everything was good legally, and financially.
I would save up a little bit for the early months, start networking and marketing yourself RIGHT NOW and invest in a realllyyy good business coach to support you along the way
Alyssa, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a licensed therapist and I knew I wanted to help people from the time I was in middle school. Little did I know, life experience would continue to pave this road for me. As some one who was always insecure growing up, finding my true authentic self was a challenging journey that led me to where I am today. But I can happily say that I have made it. Healing isn’t something that we arrive to, rather its a continual process of getting to know ourselves, meeting our needs with kindness and compassion, and being able to shift with the ebbs and flows that life will inevitably bring. Its about knowing ourselves on a deeper level and showing love to the most delicate parts of our minds.
As a licensed therapist, I have experienced first hand the impact diet culture, anxiety and trauma can have on womens lives, and as mentioned, I have had my own personal experience in these areas as well. My clinical experience has been in eating disorders, anxiety disorders and trauma, which has allowed me to develop the professional skills I use with all of my clients.
I now identify as a therapist and coach. Though I have a private practice and still love clinical work, I wanted to expand beyond the therapeutic space and reach the women in the in between. Maybe they don’t have the clinical diagnoses of an eating disorder, but they struggle with disordered eating, the lasting impacts of trauma, and intrusive thoughts that keep them feeling stuck. This is where Empowered Body Coaching came to life.
Both my professional and personal experience has driven my lifes mission and purpose. My mission is to empower women to love themselves unconditionally and unapologetically. I work with women who have fallen victim to diet mentality and have spent countless years, dollars, and emotional energy on pursuing “health” only to feel defeated and disgusted with their body. As you can imagine, this causes immense mental and emotional distress, feelings of failure, and anxiety. My clients consist of the perfectionists and people pleasers of the world. They love others with all they have yet struggle to show this same love to themselves. These women are super feelers, and in tune with the emotional needs of those around them, but tend to neglect their own needs. They often weren’t shown how to put themselves first without feeling guilty and might have experienced some neglect or emotional abuse in their lives, leaving them yearning to a sense of self worth and love.
I empower women by providing the skills, resources and support to help them find their authentic voice, live by their values, stop living by the “shoulds” and reclaim their health, healing and happiness.
I offer individual and group coaching and courses, as well as provide free resources in my free facebook group.
Reclaiming health, happiness, and healing is all about the journey back to yourself. I walk along side my clients to help them have a better understanding of who they truly are, not what society has told them to be, or what others have expected them to be. This process helps my clients to break free from the conflicting and competing expectations they feel stuck in.
We dig deep into the healing process and look at health from the whole person perspective– mental, emotional, physical, social, etc. I also help my clients to create flexible yet sustainable health goals that aren’t rooted in diet culture BS, and take into consideration their current capacity, season of life, and needs.
I truly meet my clients exactly where they are and together we build their personalized Empowered Body Blueprint, which is their life’s compass made by them, for them.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Connecting with others in the same field as you. I have found so much support in other women business owners. We are able to show support, give feedback, laugh together and cry together! There is so much power in a group of women working together and supporting each other.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Having genuine connections with others, collaborating, networking, speaking and making myself known in my field as the expert. I am the “go-to” for all things mind and body empowerment. This is exactly what I am known for. Plus you can build some really cool friendships along the way.
