We were lucky to catch up with Alyssa recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alyssa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Have you signed with an agent or manager? Why or why not?
I didn’t exactly sign to an agent per se but I did sign to one of the biggest music labels very early in my career. Although it was many years ago, I still consider being signed by Pharrell Williams and Interscope Records one of my biggest accomplishments. It catapulted my career and open the door to so many opportunities for me, even now as an independent artist. He was and still is one of the most iconic producers in music so it was a no-brainer to go under his wing.
Alyssa, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
After I graduated high school I started posting videos of myself on YouTube singing some of my favorite songs. There were only a handful of people at the time doing the same. This was before “viral“ anything. I quickly attracted hundreds upon thousands of viewers and soon got the attention of some very important people in the industry. At 20 years old, and barely any experience as an artist, I was signed to Pharrell Williams label Star Trak records under Interscope records. It was a whirlwind of tours, press runs, interviews, photo shoots, and meeting some of my favorite celebrities at the time. I had no idea what I was doing. Although it’s been over 10 years and happened so long ago, I feel it’s important to talk about as it’s brought me to where I am today as an artist – I’m so grateful to have that experience under my belt and have those names attached to my own. I lived in California for over 10 years to pursue the dream and recently just moved back to my hometown in San Antonio Texas. I play out and release original music regularly as an independent artist. I am now expecting my first child in my 30s and intend to pursue a career in music till the day I die.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
my goal in life is simple: all I want to do is music for a living. I don’t need to be this mega star, I just want to be able to share my music with the world.
How did you build your audience on social media?
People ask me this question all the time, but I have always chalked it up to being in the right place at the right time. When I first started putting myself out there the Internet was a much more simple place. I’ve been using social media as a tool for a very long time and it’s hard to keep up with the ever-changing techniques and formulas, but I suppose if I had to pinpoint something it would be consistency. Stay consistent and release every bit of content that you have, even the rubbish.
