We were lucky to catch up with Alysa Clarke recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alysa , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
One of my primary goals is being my own boss. By being confident in myself and letting my thoughts run wild, I was able to learn the craft of my present pursuits. Being a freelance model and graphic designer requires a lot of brainstorming, especially when some of the ideas are your own. I took on the challenge myself rather than enlisting professional assistance. I could have asked someone to teach me sooner, but I put my faith in God to lead me and provide the answers to my questions.
Being able to compromise under pressure was the skill I felt was the most beneficial to me. Since I work alone, I occasionally encounter problems with my presentation, designs, etc. Although everything may appear to be perfect, I assure you that I wish it was. When I realized I lacked the resources needed to complete several projects, I also encountered challenges. I persisted in perfecting my craft until I was able to go out and expand my resources because I knew I needed to gain more to offer more. I was reluctant to venture outside of my comfort zone, but I ultimately fell in love with the different kinds of art I discovered.
Alysa , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello, everyone! My name is Alysa Clarke. I’m a graphic designer and aspiring free-lance model who desires to facilitate the growth of platforms and businesses all around the world. I am the founder of Agphics, formerly known as Alysa’s Graphics. Additionally, I collaborate with local Atlanta businesses and photographers. My area of expertise is graphic design, which includes everything from flyers to websites, 3D animation, and logos. In my most recent interview with Voyage ATL, I discussed my background and what first piqued my interest in this area. Despite being artistic, my primary passion is to help people in any way I can. When a client contacts me, I put their needs first and execute their visions precisely. I’ve been working with clients for more than a year. I have designed more than 100 projects across Atlanta and the US. I want to continue helping my community each year, while working in the city of Atlanta. Last year, I took part in organizing a service project with my former agriculture teacher, which I look forward to working on in this year. I want everyone to succeed, regardless of whether they are attempting to expand their business, create a platform, find food, or even locate a place to sleep at night. I am most proud of myself for always challenging myself to work harder. I give God praise every day for allowing me to accomplish what I love most while also having the ability to make others happy. I wish to be the change in the world that we desperately need one step at a time.
The world is my canvas, and the tools God has given me to make a difference are in my hands.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
For people who aren’t in the creative field, some people may simply just ask “Why?” But it’s not about what isn’t understood about the passion, it’s about what comes from the expression and how one piece of art can make a significant impact. At the end of every project, someone is benefiting from it.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I’m able to be resilient because I’m covered in God’s armor. Without God, I am unable to move forward because He is my refuge in difficult times. I have experienced difficulties and have sometimes felt unmotivated, but I persisted. God is the reason of my perseverance. I must keep putting God first while doing what I love.
