We recently connected with Alys Pearse and have shared our conversation below.
Alys, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I first knew I wanted to pursue Makeup Artistry professionally when I was 13 years old! My older sisters, who I fondly looked up to, had tons of makeup for me to play with (in secret)! Ha! In high school, I was always the friend who did all my friends makeup for prom and pageants. In 2017, I booked my first wedding ever!
Alys, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My creative nature began at a young age of 5 years old. I received an easel from my mom as a gift for my birthday since drawing, sketching, and painting was all I breathed. As I grew into a teenager, my creative expression turned towards makeup. I was in awe at how fun the makeup application is and the way it makes you feel seeing the finished product! I’m known as the “natural” makeup artist in my area and I take massive pride in the techniques it takes to create a beautiful “canvas” while still leaving each client feeling like themselves, yet, a more elevated version! My social platform, Beauty with Alys, was established in 2015 and I’ve been blessed to help 300+ brides get glam for their special day. I primarily do wedding makeup, however, I can do makeup for pretty much any event you can think of!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My mission is to make others feel important and special. I truly get the best of both worlds with my career. I’m able to create, connect, and see how beautiful my client’s feel after their application and it’s THE best part of my job.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a (bridal) Makeup Artist is being hand-picked for the most important day of their life! Summer of 2023, I had the honor to be a part of a wedding in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. Unfortunately, the brides mother had surgery complications removing a tumor that left her paralyzed. It was very important to my bride that her mom be included in getting glam for her special day, so of course, we were going to make that happen! In over a decade of this industry, that day will be in my heart and will forever stand out to me.
