Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alyee Sakin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alyee , appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?

I came up for the idea for The Portal Costa Rica after living my own journey of almost two decades, coming back to my authentic self in my life. I dove deep to understand myself (stand under Self), work through childhood trauma, and take accountability for my current Reality in a profound way. I feel there are many different pieces to this puzzle, this game of life, and the pursuit of happiness. As in a puzzle, we need to figure out where everything came from and where it goes now, and how it desires healing and in what way. In my experience of the current world, too many people are struggling to get out of pain find peace, as I was myself, for a long time.

I wanted to create a wellness sanctuary retreat center where I could merge the different modalities that worked for me along my journey: somatic, physical and mental practices combined with God, having faithfulness in a Higher Power. I wanted to create a place that teaches and guides humans to live a joyful, conscious life. I felt there was a gap in the market for private retreats, catering to one on one individuals, as well as conscious work that stays with you, not another passing fad. It was important for me to create a curriculum that offers integration: the process of learning with the mind while you are in the retreat, and then accountability and integrating those teachings once you leave the retreat and return to daily life, leading clients to a state of actual embodiment, so they can thrive.

In my personal life, I would have a profound experience traveling around the world, going on retreats, growing within myself, and/or with spiritual teachers, and then it would eventually wear off. I wanted to offer a place for like-hearted individuals who wanted to go to a beautiful mountaintop overlooking Mama Ocean, embracing the most potent medicine- nature, and commit to themselves and/or partnership. They would start the journey from the childhood place of Imprint, where limiting beliefs, trauma, wounds formed in the body, in the mind, spirit and heart. I desired for all to heal at the root, like I did; by understanding where patterns, limiting beliefs, disconnection from God Source energy, and unhealthy communication started, so they could learn from life experiences, transforming into a healthy way of life I felt this would work because it worked for me. I had enough data to know, this is possible!

I felt combining different modalities, customized to each person just as I had discovered for myself, is the key: yoga, breath work, faithfulness, somatic & trauma work, intuitive wisdom teachings, coaching, Human Design, EMDR, and so much more! I wanted to offer the best of the best: unique facilitations and facilitators at the top of their game, working directly with clients. This way, clients can experience magic from many people, as well as my own. The more, the merrier!

I loved this unique approach to conscious self and partnership, as well as Men’s work. I feel couples and men are in a place right now where they need more support, and it is hard to find. Unfortunately, they are not given a training manual or taught any of this in school, yet in my experience, this is the root of the world we live in right now, a painful world- hurt people hurt people. All beings deserve to feel free, worthy, and to understand HOW to do heal.

I have been working with private clients for almost 30 years, in fashion styling, interior design, Mentorship coaching, intuitive work, and private retreats. I have always felt that working one on one offers the opportunity to go deeper in a more efficient time frame. I find catering to individuals and couples instead of groups, brings forth a closer, magnified look, so people can truly thrive- journeying from breakthrough to transformation in the most effective, embodied approach.

Alyee , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I am the Creatress of The Portal Costa Rica, the luxury transformational sanctuary for all things wellness, including and not limited to: personal development, soul reclamation/inner child journeys, somatic practices, faithfulness, and new consciousness. I also guide men and women through my global Conscious 360 Movement coaching mentorship program, supporting all to embody a positive mindset, clear vision, and balanced lifestyle, as well as contributing as a Activational Speaker, Visionaries and Transformational Thought Leader.

The Portal curates high-level private retreats unique for every client, delivering a customized experience based on our clients’ specific needs and individual life journey.

The Portal’s signature magic touch, brings forth a customized healing process for solo women, men and couples, allowing them to come back to who they truly are, starting from when they were a child, up until the present moment, and is unparalleled in its nature. It opens the doorway for everyone that comes into The Portal gate to live their best life; by experiencing breakthroughs and transformation through unique modalities, understanding faithfulness, receiving integration support, and private coaching accountable tools along the way.

I also offer private mentorship coaching, personal development deep dives, and trauma informed Soul Reclamation/Inner Child healing. I am here as a vessel for you to understand and accept yourself, so you can forgive yourself, and have compassion and love for yourself even more.

I have been in the wellness space for over two decades. My life hasn’t always been easy; my childhood was traumatic for me at the time, and so many life lessons along the way. As I journey through this delicate human life, I realize what is possible when we truly understand why we do things, and the root cause of where they come from. I began to feel lighter, more joyous and more at peace as I got answers. Of course, I wanted this for others as well. As I believe, when one rises, we all rise together.

The Portal and myself offers clients a deep awareness of Self, and an opportunity to feel content in their lives, accepting who they are now and why that is so and knowing what is possible to create in their future.

I am very blessed about the resonance and feedback we get from clients, that beyond having a life transformation, they experience an awakening. I built and created The Portal in the raw jungle of Costa Rica, there was nothing on this land before us. It was a labor of love, and I kept hearing, “if you build it, they will come.” I am proud of myself for moving to another country and making my dream a reality. I also continue to do my work within myself, surrendering to God, the Higher Power for love and peace, continuing to support myself and the planet at this time.

We hold a frequency within my companies; not of perfection, yet of humble awareness and grace. We carry this for the collective, and we radiate it outward. Our work here is unique- with a secret sauce I have not seen anywhere else. It is cultivated with intention, focusing out and serving others. We allow others to authentically be themselves, to feel safe and nurtured, and to let go off what has been holding them back, the ties that bind them to be a child of God.

We also do this online with clients around the world as well, our technique is profound in its effectiveness and its light. We are here for it all, and we offer the same work we are doing with ourselves, for how you do one thing is how you do everything.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

I think our authenticity definitely supported to build our reputation in the marketplace. We are honest, in integrity with our true selves, and we are also human. I always coach and teach from life experience, so people know I am not better than anyone, I am only following a fruitful path, and I have been on it a long time! I am relatable, offering my true life experiences for people to see what is possible, and show them that they can do it too!

I laugh alongside them, and share stories to connect, I empower them in an authentic, real way. I am also very loving and kind, and they feel my pure golden heart. They feel my hugs, my care, my unwavering support and that it is coming from a trustworthy place.

Some people have expressed they have wanted to do what we do, yet it’s hard to replicate or copy the secret sauce of my authentic being, as well as my lead facilitator, Crystale. We have a special ‘je ne sais quoi’ that is made exclusively by us and our true authentic nature and hearts. It is not possible to be copied. People tell us that they feel this tangible frequency when they connect with our website, our video connection call, when we coach them, or they come to The Portal. They feel the resonance with our values, our teachings, as they come from a truthful and genuine place.

I feel the part of my journey that I learn through life experience is so my clients do NOT have to go through what I have. I guide them to learn from me and my mistakes, as well as professional training application, so they do not need to go through some life struggles that have not be fun or enjoyable for them. :)

With this embodied sincerity, our clients speak highly of us and refer us to others. Our clients are family. They love and embrace it all and we adore them right back. I am so blessed to have clients for over 20 years, that support us in all we do, from The Portal, to mentorship, and beyond!

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

A lesson that I had to unlearn was that I needed to be “God- like” in every situation. What I mean by this is that throughout my life, I felt that it was necessary to offer forgiveness and take people back into my life, people please, over give, and let my boundaries be crossed, to be a good person.

I kept holding myself to the unreachable frequency of God. Holding myself to an inhumane standard in a way that allowed people to treat me as a doormat, and live out their self-victimization patterns on me. I thought I was being forgiving and understanding like God, by allowing them to stay working for me or as friends in my life, even after rupture, hoping I could show them the way (save them), and/ or by guiding them with love. Sometimes I would tell them how they were hurting my heart, hoping they would really see me, and magically change their ways.

Just recently, I learned a big lesson or as you say “unlearned”. I realized my entire life I’ve been disregarding myself. It occurred to me that when I was a child, I needed to do that to be safe. I watched my mother do it to me so I thought that’s what I needed to do- to myself- in order to be loved.

Throughout my life, I continually played out that behavior pattern, until I finally realized that I made up that story- the story of, “I have to disregard myself to be loved and safe”. I was living and continually perpetuating that belief by living from the place of disregard. I was doing it more than anyone else, because i’ve been living with me all my life, yet I would be confused when others would do it to me. Hence, “we teach people how to treat us”.

I had to unlearn that disregarding myself is not the way to be loved. It is not a way to live. To abandon and disrespect myself has actually been an act of self harm. I was telling myself that I had to disregard myself to stay safe, to be nice, to be a good human, to be as God wanted me to be.

A sidenote to that story, is I also got to unlearn that I cannot change anyone, I can only change myself. Even with my clients, if they are not willing to step into The Portal with us and come out the other side, if they do not want to do the work, I cannot make them do it. I cannot teach anybody to be a different person. You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make them drink. So even if I am kind and forgiving, it doesn’t mean that anybody else needs to be. They are responsible for themselves and how they want to operate in the world. I am not responsible for anything outside of myself.

This was a big lesson in unlearning. As I dissolve this limiting belief that I created around me, I can truly come back to myself and love myself in a more embodied way. I am honoring my own boundaries, listening to myself, respecting myself, and upholding a self-worth and self love that I never thought possible until now. Gracias Dios.
