We recently connected with Alycia Clark and have shared our conversation below.
Alycia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
I always envisioned myself being a painter. To me, there is nothing more peaceful than getting in the zone and painting a masterpiece. I know the term “starving artist” doesn’t exist for no reason though. I always shied away from taking my art seriously as a career. I looked at as a hobby instead. My partner in crime pushed me to look at my art from a different perspective and turn it into a business. I took the risk and I couldn’t be more proud of myself. I have had my doubts but I have prevailed. Since I started taking my art seriously as a business within the last year I’ve sold 7 paintings, 3 of those were commissions. I’ve participated as a vendor for Potency Music Entertainment at Nuwu Cannabis Marketplace as well. I’m also currently displaying my art at Taverna Costera in Downtown Las Vegas… I remember my first time eating there and I envisioned my art on the wall. My dreams are literally coming true right before my eyes and it’s all because the risk I took.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My artist name is Alycia J Clark and I create abstract and pop art. I use acrylic paint on canvas to make my masterpieces. I am open to taking commissions. My focus right now is on feminine energy, sexuality, and love. These themes have helped me to create some amazing pieces as I can relate deeply to them. I am proud of expressing my emotions through my art unapologetically. It helps others relate and brings people together. I love how everyone can interpret my art differently and it makes people feel different things.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I actually started talking about my paintings at work. I’m a server so not only did I talk about my work with my guest, I talked about it with my coworkers. I was later nominated for grant through my job to help push my career further. I was lucky enough to actually win the grant. That helped me push my career further than it already was and I couldn’t be more grateful. If I would’ve never spoke about my art and marketed myself that probably wouldn’t have happened!

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Honestly Instagram and any other type of social media is a great marketing tool. I use Instagram to promote my new pieces and have made some instant sales off of the post itself!
