Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alyce Walters. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Alyce thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
Becoming Ill , spontaneously with SJS completely changed the trajectory of my life and work. My near death experience gave me so much more of an understanding of life , the power of the body, energy, spirituality and how that is all connected. Being sick, with no cure only supportive care changes you. It really put into perspective what is important to me in my life. It helped me to see clearer, my role in my life as well as how much power I actually DO have.
Alyce, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have been a hairstylist for 14 years. It’s very much a passion of mine. I love meeting so many different kinds of people. I am honored to be apart of such intimate moments in my clients lives. I have always loved to connect with people. This passion has very much allowed that. Prior to falling Ill, I was very much interested in reiki+ breathwork for myself. I originally started learning these modalities to learn healthy coping skills and to learn to work on my nervous system. I had done about 7 months of eduction on reiki and breathwork before getting sick. I honestly feel that the universe was helping to prepare me for what I was about to go through. I am grateful to have learned about these modalities because I believe that they helped me survive. It also is helpful that I naturally am an optimistic person too. I feel that I healed at a rapid rate and with very minimal lasting effects to my body. From start to finish I was sick and healed in 7 months. Since my near death experience I found my calling in helping others live a holistic life. Since SJS I am no long allowed to take any over the counter medications. So I became an herbalist. I make custom capsules for people and herbal tea blends and yoni steams to name a few. I learned the power of the mind and meditation and breathwork from various teachers, attended dr.joe dispenza workshops. Sat with ayahuasca in Costa Rica. Became reiki + breathwork certified. My goal is to help people remember their power. I feel that starts with working with the nervous system and the energy centers to help rebalance and release. I want to share this and so much more with my community so we can heal together. When you heal yourself you heal the collective.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
I believe that first hand experience is what helps me in all of my passions. As a stylist I first wore fun colors and extensions so I could better relate to my clients. Give them the best advice based on my own experience. I very much have that same approach to reiki + breathwork. The herbals blends I offer all started from things I needed personally then they organically grew based on other people asking me for advice and that also helped expand my knowledge. So from thyroid issues, aphrodisiacs to cortisol levels I have something for everyone!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
As a stylist I think just word of mouth and then also marketing my work on Instagram. I eventually became recognized by a global haircolor company , Joico . It was a cool experience to travel and be on stage and educate my peers! As for reiki + breathwork ,herbal blends and my workshops. I am still building that business currently. I feel that my events and my products are sparking peoples interest. I’m excited to see this baby grow because it’s so near and dear to my heart. So again if day word of mouth and just putting myself out there is what is and will continue to build my reputation.
