We were lucky to catch up with Aly Reynolds recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Aly, thanks for joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
The biggest risk I have ever taken is moving across the country following a leap of faith in God’s greater plan. After being a full-time salon stylist in Texas for 7 years, I felt the Lord calling me to Montana. If I was going to make that big of a move, I desired to focus on building a full-time bridal hairstyling business. With the help of many friends and family members, I created an LLC and completely rebranded my business, Every Good Thing Hair Co. I left all of my beloved clients, family, friends, and everything I knew to move 1500 miles away. There are moments of fear and uncertainty of course, but God has provided for me in every way possible. The risk of uprooting my entire life and career has been the biggest I have ever taken. Now that I have settled in Montana, I am continuing to promote and grow my business. It has been an incredible experience so far. Getting involved in a new wedding industry and making connections has been so fulfilling. I am excited for the future and all the growth that comes from taking this leap of faith!

Aly, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Every Good Thing Hair Co was created from my love for styling hair and my faith that all good things come from above. I grew up in a salon watching my grandmother, Mimie, work as a cosmetologist. She taught me how to braid hair in junior high, and having the opportunity to work alongside her in her salon as a professional was so sweet.
My main focus in life is serving Jesus, but next is focusing on growing my craft and skill level with unique and intricate styles for my clients. Providing the best experience for brides on their special day is just as important to me as delivering an incredible hairstyle. I strive to bring a joyous spirit and excitement for each client, as well as an understanding of their vision so they leave feeling beautiful and confident. Fostering relationships with my clients helps me to know them on a deeper level, which allows me the privilege of cheering them on during some of life’s most special moments. So many times clients have become more than just business to me, they are friends. Every Good Thing Hair Co is genuine, honest, caring & ready to have a good time while helping women feel beautiful on their wedding day!

Do you have any stories of times when you almost missed payroll or any other near death experiences for your business?
I chose this question because it’s not something successful businesses typically highlight. I have failed so many times. Starting my business at the age of 19, there were lots of mistakes. Miss-communications, lack of knowledge, and even some hard times in my personal life have affected my business in different aspects along the way. Eight years later, I am still far from perfect, but I have been truly blessed with a clientele that is willing to show grace as I learn and grow. One thing I always tell people who want to take the risk of starting a business is no matter how many times you “fail”, as long as you’re committed to not giving up and willing to work on personal and professional flaws, you will find success!!! Just keep going!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
The wedding day is one of the most important days in your life, and I have always taken the trust my brides put in me seriously. One thing that has helped build my reputation is my commitment to supporting brides on their big day. Once I am committed to you, I’m showing up. I have driven through floods and tornado warnings just to get to my brides on their wedding day. I genuinely care for people and believe that shines through my work. I’m committed to growth, and I just really love styling hair! It is so fun and brings a deep joy to see someone feel confident about themself after leaving my chair. I feel like each of these factors have contributed to my success in this industry, and hope that you will allow me the privilege of working with you on your big day too!
