We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alvis Pham. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with alvis below.
Alvis, appreciate you joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
To be successful, I believe it takes a combination of passion, continuous improvement, and maintaining a sense of fun. In my experience as a wedding photographer, these elements are crucial not only for growth but for avoiding burnout, which is all too common in a demanding field like this one.
A pivotal moment for me was early on when I shot a wedding where I wasn’t just an observer behind the camera. I genuinely connected with the couple, their love story, and the emotions of their day. I let that connection fuel my creativity, and it showed in the images. That wedding was the turning point for me, reminding me that it’s not just about getting a technically perfect shot—it’s about creating something meaningful.
From then on, I realized that to truly grow, I needed to continuously challenge myself to improve. Whether that meant attending workshops, learning from other photographers, or experimenting with new techniques, I was constantly seeking ways to evolve.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, is remembering to have fun. Wedding photography can be incredibly stressful—working with tight timelines, fluctuating weather, and last-minute changes—but if you lose sight of the joy in the process, it can quickly lead to burnout.
When I’m not shooting weddings, I’m still doing photography in my free time. Whether that be landscapes, car photography, or street photography, I find that stepping away from weddings helps me stay creatively inspired. It’s a chance to experiment with different styles, explore new subjects, and simply enjoy the art of photography without the pressures of a wedding timeline.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a wedding photographer and videographer based in the Orange County area. What I’m most proud of is the connection I build with my clients. I take the time to get to know each couple, their personalities, and what’s important to them. This allows me to not only capture beautiful photos but also moments, but to create a connection that continues past their wedding date. I often become friends with many of my clients and it’s honestly one of the best parts of being a wedding photographer!
I have dabled in many forms of photography, not just weddings. Whenever I have free time, I always find myself doing landscape, car, street, photo journalistic, and film photography. My unique style is a culmination of all the different elements from each form of photography into one.
At the end of the day, I’m proud of the fact that I get to do what I love while making a meaningful impact in people’s lives. The trust my clients place in me to capture such important memories is something I don’t take lightly, and it’s what drives me to keep pushing forward.
From a young age, I’ve always been drawn to photography and videography. I remember borrowing my parents’ old camcorder to make my own “short films” with stuffed animals. In 6th grade, I even started a YouTube channel to showcase my arts and crafts projects. Fast forward a few years, and I found myself as a broke college freshman taking out a small loan to buy camera gear, determined to get serious about photography. It might not have been the most financially sound decision at the time (I had about $2 to my name), but looking back, it was one of the best choices I ever made.
Before diving into weddings, engagements, and other professional shoots, I began with graduation sessions. Thankfully, it was right around graduation season when I bought my first camera. After shooting a dozen or so grads, I realized just how much I loved capturing those moments and knew I wanted to turn my passion into a career. I was well aware the journey wouldn’t be easy, but as long as I had a camera in my hands, I was happy. To build my portfolio, I offered to shoot weddings and engagements for free, launched my website, and dedicated every spare moment to honing my craft. Following my passion without hesitation has taken me around the world, allowing me to witness some of life’s most beautiful moments.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
When it comes to managing a team and maintaining high morale, my advice is simple: prioritize your team over yourself and create an environment where it feels more like a friend group than a corporate job. In my experience, especially as a wedding photographer, fostering a sense of camaraderie and mutual respect goes a long way in ensuring that everyone feels valued, motivated, and connected.
I also make an effort to ensure that our work environment is fun and relaxed. Weddings are high-pressure events, but if your team feels like they’re surrounded by friends who genuinely care about each other, the pressure is easier to handle. We have inside jokes, share laughs, and encourage each other during long hours. It’s important to create moments where everyone feels like they can take a breath, step back, and enjoy the process.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a photographer is the ability to turn my creative vision into reality while capturing some of the most important moments in someone’s life. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about being entrusted with those fleeting, emotional moments—whether it’s a couple’s first kiss as newlyweds, the joy of a family together, or a quiet moment between two people in love. I get to blend my artistic vision with their story, and that’s what makes every shot so meaningful.
