We were lucky to catch up with Alvin Jimmy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alvin, appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I was 11 years old when I was first exposed to skits being uploaded on YouTube. I remember seeing Ryan Higa’s parody of “Never Say Never.” I loved the video so much that I always wanted to do something similar and entertain people. In 2011, a famous viral Indian song called “Why This Kolaveri Di” broke YouTube records in India. My friends and I decided to make a parody of that song titled “Why This Kolaveri Di for Failures.” We uploaded it to YouTube and shared it with our close friends and family. Although we knew nothing about singing, shooting a video, or editing, our friends and family appreciated the humor we conveyed through our lyrics and the effort we put in as a group of 13-year-olds.
After that, I decided to make comedy videos with my school friends, conveying relatable and funny content. All I used was my DSLR and my group of friends. This, in turn, sparked my friends’ interest in the art of content creation. Our videos were well-received for their comedy and freshness among our friend circle and family. I continued making content once I went to college with my college friends. I slowly started improving my tech skills, content, and even my comedy.
During my vacations, when I went back to my city, I would collaborate again with my school friends for the comedy videos. Over the span of three years, I created about 30 comedy videos with my school and college friends. It was after this experience that I realized I would love to pursue this career professionally and not just as a hobby.

Alvin, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I pursued an artistic and creative career because storytelling has always been close to my heart. Growing up, movies played a huge role in shaping my imagination, filling my childhood with wonder. Visiting places like Universal Studios and Disneyland, where those stories came to life, made me realize that this is where I felt happiest. It wasn’t just about watching movies; it was about being part of that magic.
Learning the craft of filmmaking—from cinematography to directing to producing—gave me the tools to bring stories to life. Movies and TV shows influenced me during my school and college years, and the idea that I could create something that might influence others in the same way sparked a deeper desire to make a difference in people’s lives through film.
I decided to learn more about filmmaking by pursuing a Master’s Degree in Film and Media Production at the New York Film Academy. Through this degree, I learned a lot about how to direct a movie, how to write a screenplay, how to produce a movie, how to edit a movie, and the different skills required to make a film. I directed and edited five short films and produced nine short films during my time in college.
Ultimately, I chose this career because creating films isn’t just a job for me—it’s a way to express myself, connect with others, and leave behind stories that could inspire future generations, just as films inspired me.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is the ability to connect with others through storytelling. There’s something incredibly powerful about crafting narratives that resonate with people on an emotional level. When I create a film or a piece of content, my ultimate goal is to evoke feelings—whether it’s laughter, tears, or reflection.
Knowing that my work can inspire someone, spark a conversation, or even provide comfort during tough times is profoundly fulfilling. I’ve experienced firsthand how stories can bridge gaps between diverse audiences and create shared experiences. Seeing someone relate to a character or a scene I’ve created reminds me of the magic that storytelling holds.
Another rewarding aspect is the collaborative nature of the creative process. Working with a team of passionate individuals brings a wealth of ideas and perspectives that enrich the final product. It’s amazing to witness how everyone’s unique talents contribute to a collective vision. Those moments of collaboration often lead to unexpected breakthroughs that elevate the work to new heights.
Lastly, the journey itself is rewarding. Every project teaches me something new—whether it’s a technical skill, a lesson in leadership, or a deeper understanding of human emotions. This continuous growth keeps my passion alive and motivates me to push my boundaries as an artist.
Ultimately, the ability to impact lives, foster connections, and learn from every experience is what makes being an artist truly rewarding for me.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes, my creative journey is driven by a mission to tell impactful stories that resonate with diverse audiences and inspire meaningful conversations. I believe that storytelling has the power to bridge gaps between people from different backgrounds and experiences. My goal is to create films and content that not only entertain but also provoke thought, evoke emotions, and foster empathy.
I’m particularly passionate about exploring themes related to human connection, resilience, and the complexities of the human experience. I want my work to reflect the richness of life, highlighting both the struggles and triumphs that we all face. By showcasing relatable characters and narratives, I hope to create a sense of belonging and understanding among viewers.
Additionally, I aim to champion underrepresented voices in my projects, ensuring that a wide range of perspectives are heard and valued. I believe that everyone has a story worth telling, and my mission is to help bring those stories to life.
Ultimately, my creative journey is about leaving a positive impact on the world through storytelling—whether it’s encouraging someone to pursue their dreams, providing comfort in difficult times, or simply making someone smile. I strive to create a body of work that reflects the beauty and complexity of life, aiming to inspire and uplift others along the way.
