We recently connected with Alonso Sanchez and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Alonso, thanks for joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Alonso Sanchez was a member of the high school class of 1986 who decided to take a risk just two years after graduation. Despite having zero knowledge or experience in the fitness field, he decided to pursue a career in this industry.
Alonso’s journey was not without its challenges. However, he was fortunate to meet a great mentor named Tony Brown who took him under his wing and helped him to develop the skills and knowledge he needed to succeed. Through hard work and determination, Sanchez’s career in the fitness industry has been an amazing journey. He started as a personal trainer and then moved on to become a manager at a local gym.
After several years of working in the industry, Sanchez was offered the opportunity to become the spa director at Porta Vita, a multi-million dollar resort. He spent the next five years managing the spa at Porta Vita. During this time, he was responsible for overseeing all aspects of the spa including staffing, budgeting, and marketing. He helped to increase the spa’s revenue and improve its reputation within the industry.
But his journey didn’t stop there, while working at Porta Vita, Sanchez was mentor once again, this time by Master Vargas in the Art of body work. Master Vargas taught him various techniques of body work including massages, stretching and other therapeutic practices. Sanchez quickly realized the benefits of these techniques and how they can be used to help people achieve success in their bodies. He added this knowledge and skill to his existing fitness expertise and began to integrate it into his personal training sessions.
Sanchez’s clients started to see results and word spread about his unique approach. This new knowledge and skill helped him to create an amazing opportunity to help people achieve success in their bodies. He was able to attract more clients and help them reach their fitness goals faster and more effectively.
Sanchez’s journey in the fitness industry has been an amazing one, filled with both challenges and triumphs. He has proven that with hard work and determination, anyone can achieve their dreams, even if they have no prior knowledge or experience in the field. His story serves as an inspiration to others who may be considering taking a risk and pursuing their dreams, regardless of their lack of knowledge or experience. He is a living example of how mentorship and never giving up on your dreams can lead to success.
Alonso, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was just a kid growing up in Miami when I first saw the Charles Atlas ad in the back of my comic book. I remember staring at the picture of the muscular man and feeling a spark of inspiration. I was fascinated by the idea of becoming strong and confident like him.
As I grew older, I became more and more interested in fitness and health. I read every book and magazine I could find on the subject, and I idolized figures like Joe Weider. I was determined to become a fitness specialist, just like them.
I started going to the gym, pushing myself to lift heavier weights and perform more reps. I spent hours there, training tirelessly, not only to improve my own fitness but also to learn the best ways to train and help others achieve their goals. And it paid off, I saw my body change, my muscles growing bigger and stronger.
But it wasn’t always easy. There were times when I wanted to give up, times when it felt like I wasn’t making any progress. But I remembered the Charles Atlas ad that first inspired me, and I knew that with hard work and determination, anything is possible.
Years went by, and my dedication and perseverance paid off. I became a successful fitness specialist, training clients and helping them achieve their fitness goals. I was proud of what I accomplished, and I knew that I owe it all to Charles Atlas and the spark of inspiration he gave me when I was just a kid
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Building a solid reputation as a fitness professional requires a combination of expertise, communication skills, and a dedication to providing the best possible service to clients.
One key aspect of building a strong reputation is being able to effectively communicate with clients. This means being able to explain exercise techniques and routines clearly and accurately, as well as being able to understand and address clients’ individual goals and needs.
Another important element of building a solid reputation is being honest with clients about what they can realistically expect to achieve. Setting attainable goals and helping clients to understand the importance of self-care, such as proper nutrition and recovery, can help to foster trust and build a positive reputation.
Being punctual and reliable is also crucial to building a strong reputation as a fitness professional. Clients appreciate trainers who are always on time and who take their commitments seriously.
Finally, staying up-to-date with the latest research, techniques, and trends in the fitness industry can help to demonstrate to clients that you are a dedicated professional who is constantly working to improve your skills.
By focusing on effective communication, setting realistic goals, teaching self-care, being punctual and reliable, and staying current in the industry, fitness professionals can build a solid reputation and establish themselves as trusted and respected experts in the field.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I never used to be overweight. But for over the 15 years, I let myself go. I stopped exercising and started eating more junk food. Before I knew it, I had gained 90 lbs. I was in a rut and didn’t know how to get out of it.
I felt hopeless and depressed. I didn’t want to go out in public because I was so self-conscious about my weight. I knew I needed to make a change, but I didn’t know where to start.
That’s when I discovered yoga. At first, it was hard. My body wasn’t used to the movements, and I couldn’t even touch my toes. But I kept at it. I started going to classes regularly, and soon I was able to do more advanced poses.
I also started incorporating other forms of exercise into my routine, such as weightlifting and cardio. I set a goal to lose weight, and I worked hard to achieve it.
It wasn’t easy. There were times when I wanted to give up, but I kept reminding myself of my goal. I kept pushing through the tough times and the setbacks.
Eventually, I reached my goal. I lost all the weight I had gained and more. Not only did I feel great physically, but I also felt a sense of accomplishment and pride.
I also found that my mental health had improved as well. I no longer felt depressed, and I had a renewed sense of confidence. I realized that resilience was the key to my success. I had the strength to keep going, even when things got tough.
Now, I’m in the best shape of my life. I feel healthy and happy, and I know that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. I realized that Resilience is the path to success and I am proud of the person I have become today.
