We recently connected with Alondra Gonzalez and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Alondra, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I worked on was my spring break vlog series. Instead of returning home from university for spring break I chose to apply for university housing in center city with a friend. Making pictures and videos are two of my passions. Therefore, I took advantage of my free time to document my adventures in center city and provide my audience a glimpse of my life away from home. I loved capturing the authenticity of it all, but also the excitement of being young and carefree. A week in the city as a young adult- hanging out at cafes, spending time with close friends, shopping, but also being money conscious because we are university students- it’s an exciting time. – Considering I recorded an entire week of my life, there was an increase in relatability in my videos because I shared how I managed my finances, how I still had to work and, you know, also there are days where you don’t feel your best and I was able to capture all that. Which further communicates that I’m human too. And we can all relate to what being human is like.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Yes, of course. I am Alondra Gonzalez, you might know me on social media as alonlon. I am a content creator for several platforms including Instagram, Tik Tok, Pinterest, YouTube, and Facebook. Surprisingly, I wasn’t on any of these platforms until about eighth grade, and some I recently joined a couple years ago. My content varies based on accounts and platforms- because I can’t settle for one- but overall my content is authentic, artistic, and relatable. – I have two Instagram accounts. One, my main, encompasses fashion, fitness, and lifestyle. My side account on Instagram is compromised of vegan/vegetarian-friendly recipes I make myself. Tik Tok also has two accounts. One, my main, encompasses comedy and relatability. My side account on Tik Tok is solely for acting and short films. Pinterest, limited to one account, unifies fashion, lifestyle, and my recipes, along with photography. Lastly, I take my Tik Toks from my main account and post those on Facebook and YouTube Shorts.
I did not know I wanted to take social media seriously until I began spending more time on it and realized there was a bigger purpose to it all. The life of influencers and ad content reshaped my thinking and understanding of social media as not just entertainment, but a tool, a gateway, and/or form of expression.
During the same time I realized this, I was also going through a difficult acne journey and decided to turn to social media to reach others who, perhaps, were going through a similar experience. By posting the products I used and connecting with my followers- I built a credible, authentic, and relatable platform.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Making people laugh or helping people feel less alone. I feel like everyone has so much going on in life or we get a little lost in our own heads, and so, being able to bring a little happiness- or comfort to people, even if it’s just for five seconds, is rewarding enough for me. Also, the comments- I love seeing peoples’ comments. Especially the ones who, like I said, say my video brightened their day. Or they thought they were the only ones who felt a specific way, or were experiencing a similar thing. It just warms my heart to know that I am able to touch people in such a way that I never would’ve thought possible. Even if I don’t know them personally- it’s like we develop this connection.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, travel. So, I am actually studying abroad in Germany in August and I am looking forward to the content and sharing my experiences with my audience. I love learning and growing as a person, so traveling is something I find- not just enjoyable, but also insightful. Travel allows you to learn more about yourself and other cultures. It’s a chance to form deeper connections with people all around the world- and the beautiful thing about it is you don’t have to leave the country in order to gain these experiences. For myself, traveling from the Midwest to the East Coast for university, I learned a lot about myself, about people, about culture and yes, I say culture because Philly- that’s where I study- is, you know, they’re the city of brotherly love, a city full of spirit. And they take a lot of pride in their sports, that’s all I’m gonna say. In short, I want to document my honest experience traveling, whether that be within the US or outside of it I think, sharing these experiences, sharing what I’m learning, and honestly bringing my own perspective to the table- it’s something we all as humans can learn and connect with.
