Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alondra Flores. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alondra, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I’m very happy being an artist! Of course, it’s definitely not easy nor for the faint of heart. However, I know if I were working a regular 9-5 I would NEVER feel fulfilled. Working for yourself has its perks, but getting to “make your own schedule” can sometimes leave you overworked. I personally mess up my schedule from time to time, and end up working days without a day off for a while. It can be exhausting and that’s when I ponder with the idea of, maybe I should get a regular job… Those intrusive thoughts are very short lived though. I very much prefer getting to be creative everyday doing something I love and meeting new people. It’s always a great feeling when people come to me to have my art on their face. It’s the biggest compliment!

Alondra, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Alondra Flores, I’m 26 years young. I originally started my career as a makeup artist 8 years ago, and in 2017 I got certified in microblading. I loved creating brows so much, I went back to school get my Esthetics license in 2020 so I could be able to expand my services and specialize in brows. I currently offer microblading, powder, and combination brows. I’ve also added on waxing, tinting, and brow laminations. I wanted to be able to maintain brows as well as create them! I’ve always been drawn to anything creative, art class was my favorite class in middle school. I never knew exactly what I wanted to do as a career, but I just knew I wanted to do something fulfilling. It wasn’t until I got into high school that I started to LOVE makeup. If anyone in our girls locker room needed help with their makeup, I was happy to do it! After I graduated, I had my first makeup client. The occasion? Her wedding! I was definitely nervous, but after I was done I immediately knew it was what I wanted to do as a career. I currently work with a HMU team Pretty on Premises and love it. I’m a hopeless romantic and wear my heart on my sleeve so hearing everyone’s stories of how they met, and how they fell in love really warms my heart. If you’re wondering by now “But how did you get into tattooing peoples faces for a living?” Brows are my favorite part of doing makeup. I opened up Instagram one day and came across someone posting a microblading before and after and I was intrigued. I immediately opened my sketchbook and was drawing brows for weeks until I took my first class. It was definitely challenging, but I enjoy learning new things and I kept at it until I was confident. I’m proud of where I’ve gotten to today, but just know I’m always trying to be better. There is always room for growth! Brows are the most important feature of a persons face, it’s the first thing you notice about someone. I think what sets me apart is, I don’t offer cookie cutter brow shapes to my clients. I take a look at a persons brows and see their potential and enhance their natural shape. I like to design brows according to someone’s facial structure, that’s what makes us all unique. I always start off conservatively, because we can always add on later but not take away. I want every client who sits in my chair to know I can accommodate them and always have a service to offer them. Whether that’s through grooming brows or tattooing. There’s always a way to make your brows look better! I’m currently working inside House of Beauty Fort Worth.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Feeling a clients gratitude. I sometimes hear from others “Oh it’s just brows!” Or “It’s just makeup it’s not that serious”. I have clients who have lost their brows from cancer or due to auto immune diseases. When they look into the mirror and see they have brows again, seeing their faces light up and feeling normal again. Those negative comments mean nothing to me. Being chosen to do a brides makeup for their wedding day. Wow, what a compliment! That’s the biggest day of someone’s life, and I’m so lucky I get to be apart of making someone feel beautiful on such an important day. I want every one of my clients to feel confident leaving my chair, and I’m happy I get to help them achieve that. I know what I do for a living has a greater purpose than what people see on the surface.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I don’t think a lot of people realize the amount of money and time artists spend on materials, product, and education. Paying for a quality service should be seen as an investment. I personally am always trying to find the best products, and education to further my career and give the absolute best service and results for my clients. Safety is my top priority, and I always buy from reputable brands and buy sterile needles and blades. I’ve always found alot of truth in the saying “If you think paying for a quality service is too expensive, just wait until you have to pay for a correction”. I guarantee it’ll be more expensive in the long run. If you absolutely love someone’s work, they’re worth every penny. I promise.
