Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alona Sofer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, Alona thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.

Our names are Alona and David Sofer. Our story started back in 2016 when we decided to follow our hearts and pursue the “American Dream.”
We moved in 2017 from Israel to Kansas with just our two dogs; Fender & Gibson. — The beginning was rough; entry level positions, cultural shock and loneliness sat at our doorstep. Memories of days when we had little to our name and no plans in place, still play in our minds, but what stands out vividly to this day, is the dream we were ready to begin chasing and the path that unfolded before us to begin pursuing our “American Dream.”
We were no strangers to hard times; as we both served in the Israeli Defense Forces, and David was a law enforcement officer for years. We had witnessed war, terror attacks, and each had experienced heavy, personal loss. However, none of that was going to stop us. We were set on a dream to make music and took the leap, heads first.
The initial step in our pursuit led us to Topeka, KS where we met incredible and generous people who not only embraced us, but provided us a family during challenging times. Although a blessing, our journey was quickly growing, and the next step was leading us to Colorado. David secured a job as a law enforcement officer in a small town, and we bought our first home in America. It was a huge win for us, and quickly led us to record our first EP album, “Still on Top.”
Taking a financial risk, we recorded locally and began playing small gigs in the area to gain awareness. Everything was going well and talks began about our next single…but then life happened. The whole world stopped for two years and that was it. Our dream came to a halt, and held on by guitar strings as we worked to maintain music throughout trying times. During that time however, our family grew as we welcomed our daughter, Joy. She came to us after years of difficulties, perfect in every way. As if it were meant to be, she filled a puzzle piece in our journey that allowed us to grow in ways we never imagined. A fire was lit once again, and new sounds were fighting to emerge.
The world changed, but so did we. With this change came the realization that our “American Dream” was reachable, and that we only needed to take the final step. That is how we found ourselves Tennessee bound, and creative fires lit! It was time for the Alona Sofer family to make music again. Once again, we packed our stuff and this time chased the horizon to Trousdale County, TN, just 45 minutes away from Nashville. Landing in the world of musical opportunities, our next destination was making a forever home.
Now here we are today telling the story, five years into our dream chasing. Our new song ‘My American Dream’ is our story, but also a testimony to our love for this great country and the brave people of America. We are truly blessed to be a part of this nation and we are proud Americans. We hope that you will listen to our song and share it with your friends and family. Alona, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

Alona Sofer Music is the epitome of the “American Dream.” A family immersed in music; finding our journey among the strum of guitar strings, life experiences, and discovering our sound despite the noise. Our story began about six years ago with a trip to “Music City.” Starting small, but dreaming big, our small family soon grew as did our music. A starter EP and now a new single titled “My American Dream”, our leap of faith has brought us to home sweet home Tennessee!

A raw realness can be found in our music. Taking everyday life experiences, worldly events, and personal endeavors. David and I try to bring together a mix of our culture and heritage with an American sound and we focus on sharing the beauty of the “American Dream.”

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

I would say that the mission is to connect to people. A song that really touches your heart and soul has a magic touch to it. I personally have songs that make me go down a memory lane or feel a particular way so for me that is the goal. I want to be able to touch the soul of a person by writing those songs. We had some incredible experiences in gigs and after the show conversations and those moments are one of our favorites.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

The people we meet along this journey through music and storytelling is the most rewarding part. Being able to connect through a story and a song is a dream come true. We honestly lose track of time when we write or try to come up with parts, so the creative part of it is so spiritual in a way and then seeing others react to the song, you just can’t ask for more.
