We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful A’lon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with A’lon below.
A’lon, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Taking risks in anything in life can be considered illogical. But, as for myself, I have something called faith. My faith triumphs over logic, and this is because time and time again when I make risky faith-based decisions, it always works out in my favor, even when I don’t see it at first.
One huge risk I took that helped pave the way for my career was moving to Los Angeles. I moved post-pandemic across the country unexpectedly. My plan was to come here for a summer internship, but it ended up not working out because of the aftereffects of COVID-19. I ended up applying for some jobs just to make ends meet.
I ended up getting an interview at a remarkable place and ended up getting hired on the spot. It showed me that risking my logic for a faith-based belief that what I want is possible. I just have to know it as true.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I was born and raised in Kansas. The Midwest is what attributed to who I am today as a creative. When I was in my sophomore year of high school, I remember taking multiple electives to earn credits. Photography happened to be a random one that I stuck with. I remember doing things in the darkroom as well as learning about Photoshop. I loved everything about the medium. You could document something and make it real.
While falling in love with photography, I also had a liking for sports and fashion. Growing up, both of my parents instilled in me the fun ways of expressing yourself through style. I still to this day have my first pair of Air Jordan 12’s in black and white. My parents got them for me when I was only six months old.
Sports was another thing that stuck with me. I played basketball most of my youth and also tried out track in high school. For other reasons though, I stopped playing sports and got more and more into creating. Something about bringing something from mind to medium was always exciting.
Today, you can find my creative photo and video work on my website alonraw.com as well as my clothing brand alondistrict.com. I attract those who are bold in who they are. I capture the brave hearts, the ones who believe against all odds who they are and who they’re meant to be. Whether you’re a model, recording artist, or anything in between.
My clothing brand is for those who carry the same spirit. Tenacity and boldness. Not to sound like a cliché. But I’ve been through a lot of darkness and deep valleys in life. I know what it’s like to be at the lowest lows and to be pulled out of it on top. It’s a triumphant feeling to go against the odds.
If you ever feel like giving up, just remember that the world needs to see and hear you. There is, and will only ever be, one “You.” Don’t be selfish; let your light shine for those in the dark. Your story may be what someone else needs.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal in this creative journey is to be a guide.
I want to guide those who may be lost, no matter what area you are lost in.
My mission is to help you get back on track.
I want you to see that though the journey is tough at times, the outcome triumphs.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I think the greatest thing about being an artist is the Freedom.
Free to just, be.
