We were lucky to catch up with Almetia “MIMI” Thomas recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Almetia “MIMI”, thanks for joining us today. How did you get your first job in the field that you practice in today?

Before I started my business, I was very unsure of my purpose. I lost my job as a home health professional, bills were piling up, my sons were still young and I didn’t know how I’d even begin to put my life back together. I prayed and cried, sometimes just ready to give up. Living in Atlanta with no blood family and no real support I eventually packed my things and went home to Detroit with a plan to save some money and move back with a goal to rebuild my life. I was blessed with the opportunity to visit Nigeria for the 3 times. Every time I visited it seems like a rebirth, but this 3rd time was different. For the first time in my life I knew exactly what I wanted for my life. Being amongst the rich culture and the amazing people I felt empowered! Especially when we went to the market, there were so many herbs and spices I wanted to help heal people with the power of holistic treatment and all natural products. I did my research, plus I was able to go to the locals who helped choose my ingredients. When I got home I immersed myself in creating quality products and from there MiSoNatural’s skin care line was born! I am extremely grateful for how far I have came I am the first in my family to start and own a business by turning my passion into a very lucrative career.

Mimi was born and raised in the heart of Detroit, Michigan, where she fell victim to the world around her.running in the streets with the wrong crowd to become a mom at only 15-years-old, and stuck in a toxic relationship. So many people thought she wasn’t going to amount to anything, and for a long time, she felt the same way.
One day Mimi decided enough was enough! She made it her mission to escape the toxic lifestyle she saw most of her closest friends and family fall victim to. She took her 2 sons and escaped the relationship. She even started her professional career as a nursing assistant. She worked hard and rose through the ranks for over 10-years. While she loved caring for people, she was not happy with the redundancy of working a regular job. She dreamed of being able to live her life and explore her passion for health and wellness in an innovative and big way. It was time for another fresh start.. and since she was sick of the violence and poverty in Detroit, it was time to do something new. She packed her two sons and moved to Atlanta, Ga all on her own.
Struggling to find her own way and dealing with many life challenges, Mimi’s life was not getting better. She was a single mother of two boys, and with only a $6.75 per hour income in a new city, Mimi was forced to figure it out. She went on a spiritual and self-love journey, and started her road to entrepreneurship and freedom.

MIMI was blessed with the opportunity to travel Africa. It was at that moment she realized the purpose God had for her she fell in love with the culture she traveled back and forth every time bringing back ingredients to make her own products. In 2018, she stepped out on faith and launched MiSoNatural, LLC., an organic skincare line then in 2020 she created the beauty and wellness mobile spa based out of Atlanta, GA, and generated over 50k in months! Working with a dozen celebrities and loyal clients Her brand was an instant success and helps people to become more aware of their health, wellness and beauty. Her company offers an array of relaxing and rejuvenating services that not only help people look good, but feel good too. In 2021 MIMI continued to break barriers hosting her first Journey To Wealth Women Empowerment Conference in her hometown, now 2023 making her own history she hosted the Journey To Wealth Black Business Ball in downtown Buckhead, something that has never been done before, she plan on taking the Journey To Wealth Empowerment to Africa.
She will alway strive for greatness. Her goal is to make an income while making an impact.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?

Other than training/knowledge, it takes passion! This field requires you to constantly be a student, you have to be able to keep up with the new practices while staying grounded in your practice. Passion helps bring about your authenticity, helps being able to communicate and have empathy for people from all walks of life. When my clients are with me, I’m their healer, therapist, accountability partner and friend.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?

If I could I’d go back and choose my profession, I’d choose it over and over again… I only wish I’d have realized my calling sooner so that I could’ve helped more people, but I understand that God makes no mistakes and that I had to grow into the woman I am today.
