We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alma Benitez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alma below.
Alma, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you tell us a story about a time you failed?
When I started my business back in November of 2019. I remember that I started with only seventy dollars to my name, and a dream to be successful. I had tried it all, being a stay at home mom just wasn’t working for me. I got a regular job but it just wasn’t paying enough. I started a business called “rose’s sweets”, but it really didn’t take off. That was it! I struggled to find something that I would love, and at the same time be able to make a living out of. But the thought of failure was always at the back of my mind. Having had little to no success in my other business ventures, I was at a dead end.
Alma, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Alma’s Party Decor started from a series of failed business attempts. I was at a dead end with only seventy dollars to my name, and a dream to be successful. One night while scrolling through my TikTok feed. I saw a video of a woman who made balloon decorations. I was instantly intrigued. I though to myself, “hmmm, this can’t be that hard right”? Boy, was I wrong. I used the seventy dollars I had in my savings, and bought my first balloon pump. I also bought a couple of balloons to practice with. Though trial and error, ups and downs I began to get good. I began to make small arrangements for clients and they loved them. Word started to spread and my business began to boom! The money that came in from business was set aside to buy better material. The highest quality of balloons, the best customer service, and all this without hurting your wallet. We take pride in offering a variety of backdrops, balloon arrangements such as; balloon garlands, balloon mosaics, and more. Also our recently acquired peacock chair. Our company believes that everyone deserves to have beautiful decorations at their events, without going bankrupt. We are people to, we side with our various clients and help acomódate to their wallets. Our motto is “Let’s give your event a POP of color”.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I believe social media has been a very valuable asset to my business. The reason being is that no one really watches t.v that much anymore. So spending money on a comercial would be pointless. But who doesn’t have a phone? Social media is what is in right now. We showcase all our work on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. These being our main sources of communication where customers can speak to us, and send us pictures of their ideas..
How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience off of one thing. Consistency. That was the key element to me gaining my growing/sincere clientele. Also persist and insist. One piece of advice I can give anyone that is just starting out in the business that I’m in is, always promote your work. Share your work with the world. Even to your vey few followers/customers. Showcasing your work on social media builds up your portfolio. Social media is a very strong tool that is free and accessible to anyone! Don’t underestimate it.
