Allyson, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?

One thing my parents did right and how that has impacted me in my life and career, is instilling a hardworking drive and work ethic. They always encouraged me and pushed me to my fullest potential, with anything and everything. They made sure I knew, that, even if the outcome wasn’t the best, that they were still proud of me, and wanted me to keep chugging along, and pursuing the goal that I had in mind. They always told me how proud they were of me, Which kinda gave me that push to keep going.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Hi! My name is Allyson Matthews, I’m 24 Years old, and I am the owner of BeautyByAllysonMae! I started doing Bridal/Event hair in 2017/2018, Onsite, in my hometown of St Augustine Florida. I travel to my clients booked Venue, Airbnb, Hotel or Homes, to style their hair for their weddings and or events! I started out being a receptionist for a salon in town named “The Bardot”, and got intrigued by the wedding industry! I always loved styling hair. Growing up I was a competitive cheerleader, my mom was a cosmetologist, and my second job was in a salon. I guess you could say growing. up in that environment has had an effect on who I am today! The services I provide are dry styling services. For example: Updo’s, Half up styles, Braids, and all the curls of course! I work with mainly Kenra products, Hot tools, and don’t forget the thousands of bobby pins I stock up on each month! Getting yourself ready for a super important event can be stressful, and nerve wracking. I love that I can ease my clients stress, all while making them feel beautiful and relaxed at the same time. My clients mean the world to me. I think what sets me apart from others is i’m very determined to be successful. I put in my effort 100% of the time, even when i’m not at work, Whether it be posting my work on social media, to update my followers, or responding to emails and scheduling. One thing I have heard my clients say is they appreciate how responsive I am. I think the one thing I am most proud of, is that I am only 24 years old and have this clientele and following. I never expected my business to grow this fast and consistent! The main thing I want my future clientele to know about me, is, my biggest goal at the end of the day, is to provide excellent customer service, styling, and overall experience. I want my Clients to feel comfortable around me. I want them to be honest with me, if they don’t like a style, That way I can fix it and style it to their liking, etc. Overall I want all of my clients to be happy.

How did you build your audience on social media?

I built my audience on social media by being consistent! You don’t have to post a lot, multiple times a day, but having a schedule or keeping up to date with photos of your work is extremely helpful! Use lots of hashtags to reel in viewers from all over the country! People click on hashtags to find content they are looking for. You may be their perfect match!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative hairstylist, is seeing the smile on my clients face when it’s all finished. Knowing I created my clients dream wedding hairstyle is something a little girl dreams about from a young age, up. Making my client feel confidant gives me the confidence to keep pursuing my business.
