We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ally Rose a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ally thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I think it’s important to preface that it’s never too late to start pursuing your dream. Sometimes things fall in place when they need to, though I always think back on where I would be now if I pursued music seriously earlier. I’ve always been interested in creative work. I come from a very musical family where singing is a natural talent. Throughout my life I dabbled in fine arts, film, poetry, music, and creative writing. I wanted to do it all so I did. I thought illustration and film was my calling, as being in front of crowds always gave me severe anxiety. As I got through college music started calling To me, and I started becoming more and more comfortable being in front of crowds and performing. Music is now my full time passion that I’m building to become my career. If I could go back I wish that I focused more on learning music theory and learning an instrument ealier as a kid. I feel that my anxiety held me back from starting any of that earlier and if I could go back I would tell my younger self to trust in herself and her talent!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
In 2017 I started getting vocal training as I really wanted to start a serious musical project. From there I met Tristan Russano (guitarist of Forge the Sun), and we formed our band Forge the Sun. Forge the Sun is an original progressive rock and pro cover band. We create original music that is inspired by many genres and eras of music. We craft nostalgia and modern sound together to create a unique and original listening experience. Between Tristan composing high energy and technical instrumentals and myself writing immersive lyrical stories and emotional melodies, our music offers something for any listener. We also offer cover music shows for private gigs and festivals. We have over 7 hours of learned cover music in our repertoire and always willing to learn any type of genre. When we broaden our horizons on learning new music it makes us stronger musicians.
We are proud to announce our first upcoming album is almost finished. We would love for everyone to follow us on Facebook and Instagram to follow our progress! https://linktr.ee/ForgetheSun
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being able to connect with a fan or listener. We could play to a room of hundreds of people or ten people and I would take the group of ten who end up following us, buy merch, or want to connect with us after the show any day over a crowd who doesn’t care.
It’s an amazing feeling when someone comes up to you and understands your creative vision and tells you your performance and music gave them chills! My ultimate goals as a musician is to make people feel something, to start thinking, to heal. I’m not here to impress anyone or get validation for my talent. I’m here to provide that song you need to hear after a bad breakup, to pump you up, to express your love, or to inspire you to keep going.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Most of my life has been an illustration of resilience. But I would say my biggest journey of resilience is despite growing up in an extremely toxic environment, having lived most my childhood being savagely bullied, and living some of my pivotal teenage years in a dangerously toxic relationship that resulted in dealing with years of stalking, being afraid of walking alone at night, and permenant damage to my brain and body, I never gave up on myself. I never believed the bullies, I never let my mental health destroy me, I never let everything happening around me affect my academics. Music and art was the outlet that saved my life and gave me the strength to find a path of growth and healing. If I could in any way give that gift back to anyone in need I would do it in a heartbeat.
