We were lucky to catch up with Ally Howard recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ally, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission isn’t just to provide a good wax service. I also want every person who comes into my studio to feel accepted and more confident leaving than they did prior. Human connection and uplifting the people around me are personal values I have that translated over to my business. My favorite part of my job is getting to know my clients, laughing with them and being someone to talk to if they need that too. Making my clients feel comfortable is just as important as being a great wax specialist.

Ally, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Ally Howard, a licensed esthetician and the owner operator of Eclipse Esthetics Studio in Houston, Texas. I have been licensed since 2015 and love all things skincare and waxing! My very first job was as a receptionist at a spa and I became interested in skincare and being in the industry so after graduating from esthetics school I started working doing facials. After a few months I decided to pivot to waxing and I am so glad I did.
After waxing for almost 8 years I now specialize in bikini Brazilian waxing and eyebrow shaping. I use a high quality wax and offer great after care products to get my clients the best results possible. But, the most important part of my job is making my clients feel comfortable and confident. My studio is body positive so no matter your size, shape or color you are welcome because waxing is for everyBODY. I got into this industry to make people happy and I’m proud to say I think I do that every day when I go into work, and for that I am so unbelievably lucky.
When I’m not waxing or running my small business it’s all about family time. I have a big extended family and a wonderful husband and son. They are my world!

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Word of mouth and referrals! Waxing is a more personal service so people like to go to someone that their friend/coworker/etc went to and had a good experience. Social media and really being myself and showing my brand on social media has also been an effective strategy but referrals are the best.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I love podcasts and listen to them on Spotify. My favorite general entrepreneurial podcast is Working Hard, Hardly Working. My favorite beauty industry specific podcasts are The Wicked Lash Podcast, Uproot Yourself and The Waxing Podcast.
