We were lucky to catch up with Ally Benton recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Ally thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?

Some of the biggest trends at the moment with makeup is clean skin. Skincare is becoming more popular in order to achieve a no makeup makeup look. Lashes are taking off with the spikey look for 2023. We are going to see more layered lashes and texture. We are also going to be seeing more pops of color in lashes.

Ally, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

My love for makeup and cosmetology started when I was 5 years old. I always played in my moms makeup. I was in college and realized I wanted to do makeup and go to cosmetology school. Once I graduated cosmetology school I started getting into lashes. I have been so lucky to work with some of the most amazing artists in the industry. I am originally from Houston Texas. I was doing lashes there and then decided to move to Los Angeles in 2016 to pursue my career further. Over the years being in Los Angeles I opened my own lash studio called Blue Glam Lash in 2021. I offer makeup classes , makeup, lash extensions, lash lifts and brow lamination. I have a niche for natural looking lashes. I always want the best for my clients and their lashes. I use all vegan lashes and adhesives. Lash health is key so I use very lightweight lashes.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?

Word of mouth has always been key. Before social media , it was business cards and referrals. I still use these old school tools and I also offer a referral program for my clients. Being authentic, on time and consistent are keys to success.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

Definitely referrals from my clients, I always give my cards out and then it always ends up bringing in new clients. I have my social media accounts on my card so people can see my work and easily book via Instagram.
