We caught up with the brilliant and insightful AllWhiteBrix a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
AllWhiteBrix, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Before I begin creating music I would spend most of my time and early years writing poetry and listening to music. For me, poetry was always sort of a way to express myself and a creative outlet to deal with what was going on at that time in my life. Listening to music made me feel like I wasn’t the only person in the world feeling how I felt. Once I got to high school I attended a trade school called EVIT. This is where I learned the process to recording vocals and mixing/mastering. Immediately I knew this is what I loved and wanted to do for the rest of my life. That’s when I fell in love with the creative and technical process of making music. A few years later I would graduate EVIT and further my education by attending a recording studio class at Mesa community college. Unfortunately I did not pass the class but this did not stop me. I dropped out of college and begin teaching myself through things like YouTube, seminars, and going to studios when artist were recording. Since then I’ve been able to build my own home studio, record and mix/master my own vocals. Technical skills were the most essential because with out knowing the technical stuff I wouldn’t be able to do what I do today. I think the obstacle that stood in my way the most was just myself. There is no limits in this world except the limits we put on ourselves.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
AllWhiteBrix is a recording artist, songwriter, and studio engineer based in the valley of Arizona. My awareness of songwriting began at a young age and since then I’ve developed a background that includes live shows, features, and cameos in popular local artist’s videos.
I’ve demonstrated my proficiency of mixing in over 20 songs and have studied radio broadcasting.
I continue to widen my knowledge of the music industry by working to develop merchandise, study graphic design, and connecting with the local Hip-Hop community.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I’ve always felt like there has to be more to life than just the regular 9am-5pm. I don’t think we were put on this planet to work and die. I believe everyone has a bigger purpose and part of the reason for life is just about finding that thing you’re passionate about and pursuing it to it’s fullest extent. I’ve never had much growing up, we lived paycheck to paycheck and school cloths shopping for me was hand me downs. So my mission has always been to give my future family and myself a better life than I had growing up.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist for me is being able to influence, innovate and inspire a future generation. I love hearing how someone related to a song I released or how it got them through something difficult in their life. Another rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is being able to see all your ideas come to fruition.
