We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alliyah Lawver a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alliyah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
I believe being successful requires resilience, adaptability, and a genuine passion for what you do. Success isn’t just about hitting a goal — it’s about how you handle the unexpected and stay motivated through challenges. I’ve learned this firsthand through owning my event planning business, Brick & Roses Events.
There was one wedding in particular where, hours before the ceremony, unexpected storms forced us to completely relocate the outdoor setup. I had to quickly pivot, manage vendors, reassure a nervous couple, and redesign the flow of the event on the spot — all while staying calm and focused. In the end, the couple called it their ‘dream wedding’ despite everything that happened.
That experience reinforced my belief that success comes from your ability to lead through uncertainty, find creative solutions under pressure, and always keep your purpose — in that case, making a couple’s day unforgettable — at the heart of what you do. It’s a mindset I’ve carried into every role and project since.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Alliyah, the founder and lead planner of Brick & Roses Events. I started my business in 2021, but my passion for creating experiences and telling stories goes back much further. Before launching my own company, I spent years working in marketing and brand storytelling, where I learned how powerful it is to create moments that leave lasting impressions. Over time, I realized I wanted to take those skills and apply them in a more personal, meaningful way — and that’s what led me to weddings and event planning. It’s such a beautiful thing to help people celebrate one of the most important days of their lives.
At Brick & Roses Events, we offer full-service wedding planning, day-of coordination, and custom event design. I work closely with my couples to bring their unique stories to life, whether they’re dreaming of an intimate backyard wedding, a glamorous ballroom celebration, or something totally outside the box.
The biggest problems I help solve are stress and a lack of personalization. Wedding planning can be overwhelming — between managing vendors, timelines, and last-minute curveballs, couples often feel like they’re drowning in decisions. I step in to handle the logistics and details so they can actually enjoy the process. I’m also passionate about breaking away from cookie-cutter weddings. Every event I plan is personal, intentional, and a reflection of the couple’s journey.
It really comes down to intentionality and connection. I approach each wedding as a personal partnership, not just a transaction. I take the time to get to know my clients — what makes them laugh, what moves them, what’s important to them — and I weave those elements into every part of their celebration. It’s not just about making things look pretty; it’s about creating an experience that feels authentic, memorable, and uniquely theirs.

I’d want them to know that Brick & Roses Events is built on heart. Every event I plan is personal — your love story matters here. I’m not just your planner; I’m your partner, advocate, and creative collaborator. Whether you’re newly engaged, planning a milestone event, or just looking for someone who genuinely cares about your story, I’m here to make your vision come to life.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Of course! Social media has been such a powerful tool for Brick & Roses Events, especially on Instagram where visuals and storytelling really shine. When I first started, I focused on being consistent, authentic, and intentional with what I posted. I wanted every piece of content — whether it was a wedding highlight, behind-the-scenes moment, or design inspiration — to reflect the heart of my brand and the unique love stories I help bring to life.
One of my proudest moments was when a reel I created surpassed over a million views. It was a candid, emotional clip from one of my couples’ weddings, paired with trending audio. It wasn’t overly produced — it was real, heartfelt, and relatable, and I think that’s why it resonated with so many people. That experience taught me the importance of leaning into moments that feel genuine rather than chasing perfection.
For anyone just starting out, my biggest advice is to be consistent, stay true to your voice, and don’t be afraid to show the human side of your business. Share your process, your story, and the little moments that make your work meaningful. And of course — use video, especially reels. They’re an amazing way to reach new audiences and showcase your personality in a fun, engaging way. Focus less on follower count, and more on creating content that connects. The audience will come when the content is real and valuable.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe my reputation was built on a foundation of trust, authenticity, and genuine connection. From the very beginning with Brick & Roses Events, I made it a priority to treat every event as personal — not just a business transaction. I take the time to really get to know my couples, understand their story, and make sure their personalities shine through every detail of their day.
I think what’s helped me stand out is my ability to stay calm under pressure, problem-solve on the fly, and still deliver an unforgettable experience — even when things don’t go according to plan. Word of mouth has played a huge part too; past clients sharing their positive experiences, along with the relationships I’ve built with vendors and other local creatives, have really helped me gain credibility.
On the social media side, that million-view reel and consistent, engaging content definitely contributed to getting my brand in front of more people. But at the core of it all, it’s been about delivering on what I promise and making sure every client feels heard, valued, and celebrated.
