Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Allison Thurman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Allison, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
It was a pivotal moment in 2010 when my stepdad passed away, and I realized that life is too short to put my passion for art on the back burner. With a newfound drive to pursue my dreams, I set a goal to return to school. As I started taking elective art classes, I was surprised by how much joy and fulfillment I found in creating art. It was like I had discovered my inner peace, a sanctuary that had long since been lost. Before I knew it, I had set my sights on a major in fine arts and launched my own Instagram page to showcase my work.
Now, as a professional artist, I am constantly inspired by the world around me and I pour my heart and soul into every piece I create. Whether it’s a colorful fantasy painting or a stunning fantasy portrait, I take pride in knowing that my art brings joy and beauty to others.
I am grateful for that pivotal moment in my life, which ignited my passion for art and set me on the path to where I am today. I hope my journey inspires others to follow their dreams and never give up on their passions.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
As a child, I was captivated by the enchanting world of Sailor Moon and the magical realm of fae folk. From the graceful movements of the Sailor Scouts to the whimsical charm of elves, fairies, and pixies, my imagination was fueled by these mystical creatures. In my free time, I would lose myself in creating intricate drawings of the Sailor Scouts and inventing my own original characters that embodied the magic and wonder of the fae folk. I vividly remember the thrill of putting pencil to paper and bringing my fantastical visions to life.
Looking back on those childhood memories, I am grateful for the inspiration that fueled my passion for creativity. Today, as an adult, I continue to draw upon those early experiences to bring magic and imagination to all of my artistic endeavors.
My products include a collection of mesmerizing fantasy prints and custom illustrations. One of my most exciting projects is my upcoming oracle deck, which is still a work in progress. However, you can still enjoy the enchanting characters and creatures from the deck through my collection of three different sizes of fantasy prints. Each print is a stunning work of art that captures the essence of the deck and is sure to transport you to another realm.
In addition to prints from my oracle deck, I also offer a beautiful selection of fan art. These prints are sure to add a magical touch to any space and capture the spirit and essence of your favorite characters.
For clients looking for something truly one-of-a-kind, I offer commissions for fantasy illustrations or portraits, all created in the distinctive style of my oracle deck. Whether you’re looking to envision a fantastical scene or create a striking portrait, I can bring your imagination to life with my signature touch of magic. Prices vary depending on the level of detail and size of the portrait desired, with options ranging from bust to full body illustrations.
As an artist, I pride myself on delivering illustrations that are truly unique to each client. What sets me apart from others is my unwavering commitment to going above and beyond when creating art for my clients. For me, the ultimate goal is to capture the essence of the individual and their vision of themselves as a fantasy creature.
I believe that an illustration should not only be beautiful, but it should also tell a story and evoke emotion. That’s why I always strive to create illustrations that are not only visually stunning but also deeply meaningful.
When working with clients, I take the time to really listen and understand their vision for their piece. I am passionate about making their dreams a reality, and I always do my best to meet their expectations and exceed them whenever possible.
As an artist, I am constantly evolving and growing, and it’s the journey that fills me with pride. Every stroke of the pen, every brushstroke on the canvas, every creation is a testament to my growth as an artist. When I look back on my work, I can see the progression, and it’s truly humbling.
But what I really want people to know is that my art comes from the depths of my soul. I pour my heart and soul into every piece, and I hope it shows. Sometimes, the creatures I draw even come to me in my dreams, and I feel like I’m merely a vessel bringing them to life on the page.
When people look at my art, I want them to feel the emotions behind it. Whether it’s the joy of a fantasy world come to life or the melancholy of a character’s story, I hope they can see the heart and soul I’ve poured into each creation.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
During my college years, I had faced some setbacks and felt overlooked by some of my professors. However, one year we were blessed with a new professor, Chad Hardin, who is responsible for the new Harley Quinn owned by DC Comics. During a head painting class, he took the time to sit down with me and teach me how to identify shadow shapes in the face and really read bone structure in the human body. His encouragement and guidance meant the world to me, and he told me that I had the talent to succeed, I just needed to push myself harder. After two attempts at getting into the Bachelor of Fine Arts program, I took his words to heart and poured more effort into my work. I pushed myself beyond my limits and showed the program that I was ready to achieve what they wanted. I finally got in that year, and it was a moment of great pride for me.
Later on, I had the opportunity to meet Mel Milton, who pushed me even further by reminding me that nothing is impossible. I cannot express enough how much I appreciate them both for their support and encouragement during those critical years of my artistic journey. They helped shape me into the artist I am today.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
As an artist, my mission is to inspire people and create meaningful connections through my work. I believe that my illustrations have the power to touch people’s hearts and make them feel less alone in their journey through life. My ultimate goal is to create a sense of community and provide a source of comfort and inspiration to those who view my art. I pour my heart and soul into each and every one of my fantasy creatures, hoping that they will speak to others in the same way they have spoken to me.
