We recently connected with Allison Paschal and have shared our conversation below.
Allison , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
My business partner and I wanted something that was simple but made sense for a salon. We didn’t want to do anything with our names and wanted something to do with hair color. Daily the word “tone” or “shade” gets thrown around when talking with clients, but we just kept going back to HUE. We are very passionate about coloring to enhance the natural beauty of our clients. Hue Hair Studio just clicked for us!
Allison , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have been in the beauty industry since 2007.( Wow, time flies!) From a young age I would come home from school with a different hairstyle than what my mom sent me to school with. As I got older I enjoyed changing my hair, but never thought much of it. While I attended MTSU, I worked at a beauty supply store and that’s when it clicked for me that I could do this for a living. I was lucky enough to land a wonderful job while finishing up hair school. I learned so much and grew my talent and clientele working in a salon for almost 12 years. After the pandemic and death of my father, I did some deep soul searching and realized to truly be happy I wanted to create an environment for happiness, growth and support. My business partner and I have always been on the same page as far as goals and growth of our craft, so it only made sense for us to take a leap of faith together. We have wanted to create a beautiful salon space that feels like home; a safe space for our stylists and clients to come in and feel relaxed and pampered. We are all a family and look forward to welcome new faces to our Hue Family!
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
My business partner, Robert, and I met while working together in our previous salon. Im a little older than him, so when we originally started, I was finishing hair school and assisting, and he was our front desk cutie. Before he even started hair school, he knew what he was doing. We instantly became friends and our passion for learning about the industry grew together over the years. I never thought I’d ever want my own salon, but having a supportive partner is the best piece of advice I could give anyone. We mesh so well together and really balance each other out.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I wouldn’t say there is much of a story behind this but I’ve learned/am learning PATIENCE. I’m learning to take a breath and allow things to happen as they will and let go of some control. Learning to transition from a coworker to a boss is quite different, so patience definitely plays a role there. Patience is also very crucial in my day to day of doing hair. It definitely takes some time to learn my clients personalities, their goals for the hair, and just the hair itself! But as always, growth is a part of our journey and learning patience is an every day part of life!
