We were lucky to catch up with Allison Landa recently and have shared our conversation below.
Allison, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
I hope to be remembered for telling the truth, for saying what most people only think. I’ve worked on this principle throughout my life, but I think it was really cemented when my memoir BEARDED LADY came out from Woodhall Press in October 2022. BEARDED LADY is an account of living with Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia, which creates dark obvious facial hair in female sufferers. It is also an exploration of what makes one feel weird in the world.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have always been a writer. I started in journalism, but moved quickly to marketing and content creation, in addition to writing fiction and memoir. Regardless of what I’m writing, I provide clean, specific content that gets to the heart of matters.
I’m most proud of BEARDED LADY, but also of creating Allison Landa Editorial, which works with clients of all stripes to bring keen interest and fresh business to the table. I love working with clients to evolve and hone their vision … which offers me the opportunity to put my words to work!
I love what I do for a living!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect is connection — the fact that my words can create a line between myself and an audience. Connection can bring many things, including results that matter. I strive for this.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Yes! Artist residencies. These are gold. I just came back from Writers Colony at Dairy Hollow in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, where I was given the resources to work on my art for nearly a week. It was paradise.
