We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Allison Ivy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Allison below.
Allison, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t wanting to pursue a creative path. I started out wanting to be a musician, and that evolved into songwriting. Then, my desired path became that of an author. In elementary school, I discovered Goosebumps and read one of them a day. I was the kid who would read during lunch and study hall. As I got older, I would read Fear Street and Point Horror books from authors like Christopher Pike and Diane Hoh. I took creative writing classes in high school and college, dreaming about the day I could publish my own stories.

Allison, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I write under a pen name and got my start in the publishing world with The Dragon and the Double-Edged Sword, which is a YA fantasy set in the future when humans are extinct and mythical creatures roam the earth. My second novel, Inked in Blood and Memory, is a sapphic horror that features two women trapped in a book who must fight to save someone from a demon worshipping cult. It has murderous teddy bears, a mysterious cat, and sapphic romance.
I also edit and ghostwrite for others through Xcalibur Communications with fellow author J.V. Hilliard, and I’m Acquisitions Editor at Altered Reality Magazine.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Being involved in the writing and reading community helps significantly. If I have a question about publishing, it’s usually been answered somewhere on the internet. There are too many sources to list here, but one that comes to mind is Bethany Atazadeh’s YouTube channel. Her videos on publishing are incredibly informative.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
When a reader messages me to say that my words have impacted them, that is what is rewarding to me. The knowledge that my words reached someone, and they weren’t just lost to the void.
