We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Allison Erdeljac. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Allison below.
Allison, appreciate you joining us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
Growing up, I was surrounded by a strong support system. My parents separated when I was young, and my brothers and I spent our formative years living in Midlothian, VA with our Dad, amazing step-mom and step siblings. We were a large, blended family, and it was great! I watched my step-mom run a nail salon out of our home. We always had customers at our house, who quickly became lifelong friends. It was during this time that I thought this was something I wanted to do, provide people with a service or product they need and make them smile.
When I turned 11, I relocated to Houston, TX to live with my mom. I quickly learned that my mom and Aunt Rebecca were incredibly self sufficient and driven, a quality that I admired in my step-mom, (Momma V). I watched my Aunt work full-time while going to school and traveling to Mexico to educate underprivileged students, while my mom worked full-time, managed our home and took care of me.
Growing up I was very fortunate to be surrounded by strong, independent women (hustlers!) that went after what they wanted, without hesitation and always finding the humor in everything. (we don’t take ourselves too seriously in my family!) I quickly learned that life is full of obstacles and how you react to the situation, your attitude and mind-set, is everything. I consider myself to be overly optimistic, I’m just excited to be along for the ride called “life.”
The greatest lessons that I have learned in my 44 years is that I love growing and learning new things, and that obstacles are okay, builds character. I like to tell my daughter, “Smooth seas never made a skilled sailor, and sometimes you need to recalibrate, take a step back, to prepare yourself for the wonderful adventures ahead.”

Allison, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve been recruiting for 15+ years, my background is in agency, consulting and corporate recruiting. I love that everyday I get to meet new people, help them find their next job, or make a career move, every day is different and I love that!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think just being authentic and showing people that I want to help them achieve their career goals. I also think that being responsive to candidates and clients is very important. Letting them know that they are important and showing them by adding value. This includes, being a trusted advisor, being an expert on employment conditions and networking.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Absolutely! First of all, what was life like before Facebook (refuse to call it Meta, lol!), Instagram and Twitter?! These are my go-to platforms and I think they’re necessary if someone is trying to build an online presence.
My suggestion is to be yourself, share content that your followers will find interesting and that add value, make it fun by adding beautiful images. and don’t be afraid to showcase your sense of humor. Have fun and be yourself!
