We were lucky to catch up with Allison Davis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Allison, thanks for joining us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
The most defining moment in my career was probably getting hired by the Kansas City Current to be their team physical therapist. The people I worked with and learned from are some of the best in the business and I will forever be grateful for my time there because of that. Being surrounded by professionals that set such a high standard for themselves only pushed me to be better. And now I can use the knowledge gained there in my current practice.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Allison Davis and I’m a physical therapist currently living in the KC area. I’ve been interested in physical therapy since I was 10 years old – in 5th grade, we had to write a speech about what we wanted to be when we grew up and I picked a physical therapist because then I wouldn’t have to wear a dress to work and that was very important to me as a 10 year old (and still is haha). From that point forward, I was really interested in learning about the human body and how it works. As a former athlete myself, I wanted to better understand what my body needed to do to perform at a high level so I chose to explore that further with my career. Fast forward to now, I currently own my own physical therapy company that focuses on helping soccer and basketball players overcome injuries. I love helping athletes through the injury process and showing them all that their body can accomplish after sustaining such devastating injuries.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Caring. In my experience, patients want to feel like they have an ally in the healthcare system so if you show them that you really care, they’re going to trust you. And that will only help improve outcomes as a healthcare provider.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Good outcomes. When people have a successful recovery, they want to share that success so if someone they know sustains the same injury, they’re likely to recommend you to their friend/family member. So good outcomes has lead to a lot of word-of-mouth referrals for me, thankfully. Also, showing that you care. Again, when people feel like they have an ally, they’re going to trust you. And if they trust you, they’re going to recommend you. So I’ve really built my business on working as hard as I can to make sure that people get healthy again and making sure they know that I care deeply about their recovery.
