We recently connected with Allison Current and have shared our conversation below.
Allison , appreciate you joining us today. Often outsiders look at a successful business and think it became a success overnight. Even media and especially movies love to gloss over nitty, gritty details that went into that middle phase of your business – after you started but before you got to where you are today. In our experience, overnight success is usually the result of years of hard work laying the foundation for success, but unfortunately, it’s exactly this part of the story that most of the media ignores. Can you talk to us about your scaling up story – what are some of the nitty, gritty details folks should know about?
Let It Bee Crafts was born during the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020.
At first I took small steps and launched very few products via an online Etsy store. However, I was not satisfied with how small my business was and decided to take a leap and began the journey of finding a craft show or expo that would fit my needs.
It was a long road filled with some disappointing venues and sales numbers until my partner thought of the idea of combining our love of reptiles with our business.
That year, in 2021, we decided to take a leap and sell our creations at the Kentucky Reptile Expo and the Cincinnati Reptile Expo. I believe that fortune favors the brave and we are thrilled we took that leap. Nearly 2 years later we sell at expos all over the central KY area and have added 3D prints our creations list.
We are also developing our website, to launch later this year, in order to spread a little kindness and creativity wherever we go. .
I won’t lie to you and say it’s been easy, somedays were downright discouraging. However push through, find what works for your business model and never give up.
Rainbows are born on stormy days and our future has never looked brighter!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Allison and I am the creative director here at Let It Bee Crafts. I have always been a creative, free spirit and finally decided to merge my love of crochet with my business degree and the rest is history!
Here in the hive I specialize in crocheted creations, ranging from bees, to plushies, to hats and everything in between. Think of something and I have, or can, probably crochet it. My partner of 10 years holds the reigns to our 3D print section and specializes in printed animal skulls and fossils, however you can find him printing up some Pokémon or frogs most days in the shop!
Let It Bee Crafts does more than just craft. We also are huge advocates for our local bee population, I mean if they die we go with them, and we educate and give our pollinator seeds any chance we get!
I am incredibly proud of my brand and even more proud of where we are headed. I am in the process of developing a website, to launch later this year, that will have classes available so you can learn how to crochet along with me!
What I want to leave you all with is our business motto: “Be happy, be simple, and above all else always be kind.”
That’s what we do here at the hive, we create and spread a little kindness wherever we go!

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Learn what sells and don’t be afraid to take risks!
Let’s be honest here. Go to any craft show and you will find at least 2 other vendors that sell crochet items. Here’s where we had to be different. We realized that we could find items that others were not selling and market specifically to them.
You don’t have to please every customer that stops by, in fact make peace with the fact that you are different and may not be for everyone. Once you have accepted that, do your research, create your new products, spread your wings and sell!

How’d you meet your business partner?
My business partner, and creative genius with the 3D printer is actually my life partner as well! We met 10 years ago and have been inseparable since. He has encouraged me from day one and has stood by my side through each expo and journey we have been on.
When we are not running the hive we can be found cuddling our cats, running around on an adventure or exploring something new.
I couldn’t make Let It Bee work without him by my side!
