We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Allison & Corey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Allison & Corey , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
Everyone dreams of being a business owner, but not the process of getting there. We definitely did not understand what it would be like. From the bookkeeping, to the actual labor, everything about providing for your business is a non-stop cycle. When Allison worked at a bank before selling shoes full time, she had a coworker tell her “I love having a 9-5 because I know that after 5 I’m free”! At the time, her comment really caught us off guard as we couldn’t fathom how someone would prefer to be on a set schedule for work. Why did she not want the freedom in creating her own schedule? It wasn’t until we quit our jobs to start working for ourselves that we realized when you are a business owner, there is no schedule. That is especially true during the first few years of your business while you try to scale, and really get a few steady clients on your side. We now understand why her coworker would want to have certain freedom after 5 every day. Sometimes we yearn for that feeling, being able to just run errands, go shop, or even take a nap sometimes! But at the end of the day, working for ourselves pays off in the sense that our successes are just the fruit of our labor. Working hard became a choice, and we choose to work hard for ourselves.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Hello everyone, we are C.A.Flipz! To most people’s surprise, we are based out of Georgia, not California. We are Corey & Allison, here to provide our clients the most sought-after sneakers on the market. We have been reselling for 3 years now, and steadily growing ever year. We started reselling in 2020, Corey was at his job in Charlotte and bought two pairs of UNC 3s. We were living in two different cities but we were able to reunite and create the business we have today. We typically work 7 days a week, anywhere from 7 am to 11 pm. Whenever our clients need a sneaker, we go out and source it for them. With our knowledge and connections, it saves our clients the hassle of having to wait 2 weeks for resell sites like stockx. Throughout our business journey, we’ve also explored the artistic side of sneakers and streetwear. All the pictures on our instagram are taken by us with a professional camera. We try to incorporate different aspects of our environment and really add a different touch to the feeling of seeing the shoe. Being able to share our content and funny side is one of the best parts of being a sneaker reseller. Thankfully people enjoy our content, and it makes me proud to see the feedback we get from our community. We try to express ourselves through our content and hopefully relate to people on a deeper level than just business.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A big lesson that we had to learn from the beginning was being methodical about the inventory we were purchasing, and treating our “project”, as a real business. We had no real knowledge coming in, and assumed that every shoe/ clothing would sell. Due to this happening when we had no real clientele base, a lot of our shoes sold at a loss. One of even as low as $30, and we paid $200 for it. At thus point we were realizing that building the business was a lot harder than it seemed. Fortunately, our clientele base began to grow and this gave us an advantage. Now we could be more selective about what our clients may like, and taking suggestions within our community. Immersing ourselves more into the industry and building relationships played a big part in making good investments.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
If you scroll all the way back to our first post on Instagram, you will notice it is a video of us introducing ourselves. When we began reselling, we realized that the biggest issue in the industry was people getting scammed. Someone would take their money and just run with it. Most resellers just have a post which they call “legit check”. All their previous buyers comment on it as extra verification that they actually make sales to normal people. At the end of the day, people still get scammed by resellers with “legit checks”, so we decided that actually showing our face would solve that problem for us. The more people got to see our face, the more we would get recognized in public. Just recently, Corey’s sister gave our Instagram to an employee at the airport. When he checked, 11 of his friends already followed us!
