Allison, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?

This market is very saturated. There are lots of talented professionals in this industry. I have found that the edge truly is treating your clients like you would treat your close friends and family in terms of loyalty and dedication. I strive to go above and beyond with my clients and really empathize with their needs – give them extra products/images, being flexible with changing session dates and creating fresh ideas that are unique and outstanding over my competition.

Allison, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Photography began as a hobby almost 15 years ago when my second child was born. Since I have always had a good eye for angles and layouts, I was able to quickly learn what worked aesthetically and what didn’t. Mastering the technicalities of the camera and lighting took time, and am I still learn new techniques.

I have a degree in journalism and I really try to approach every shoot with a photojournalistic style. Candid, fresh, fluid and non-robotic. When we have an hour or so for a session, the challenge (and reward) is to efficiently direct clients in a way that seems natural and effortless. I am proud of the way that I have achieved this skill and also the “soft skill” of easily connecting so families feel comfortable. This allows us to get shots that feel organic and emotive.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

Follow through. Doing what I say I will do. Clients trust me and that is imperative.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?

Never get stagnant. Find new techniques, settings and tools to keep content fluid, relevant and fun!
