We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Allison and Yelca Tovar a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Allison and Yelca , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
We started the Simply Picnics DMV in the Fall of 2021. We began the business at the time that was right for us with where we were in our lives. We had left our previous job and were ready to begin a new endeavor. We wanted to have a creative outlet while allowing us to do what we enjoy most, working with people and being a part of their special moments. We began our business in the slower season. After a year of having this business, we think we began at a time that allowed us to gain experience and to reach our audience. It allowed us to be able to grow and get our name known by the time the busier season rolled around
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We are two sisters that began Simply Picnics DMV to create memorable moments for our clients
We wanted to tie the things that make us happy which is our passion for decoration and making people smile.
We provide anything from picnic set ups, tablescape designs, event designs to floral arrangements, balloon arrangements and event rentals.
We take care of the details of decorating the client’s event so the client can more fully enjoy the moment.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
We began as a picnic business but shortly after began to expand to additional services. We decided to pivot the direction of our company to offering more than pop up picnics. We started learning new skills and are excited to continue to expand services while still providing our clients with a unique experience for their special occasions.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
We built our social media by getting to know and working with local vendors. It’s a good way to recommend each other’s services and also learn more about their services.
Our advice would be to set your focus on your goals of your business, try to cancel out the white noise giving you doubt and continue to work toward your goal and take set backs as redirection.
