We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Allie Nyman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Allie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My husband and I got married June, 2015 and moved to Texas in September of that same year. I had just turned 21 and other than college I had never been on my own. It was a new and exciting journey for me. Eventually, we were ready to start having kids. What we were not prepared for was the four year struggle. After lots of tears and accepting the roles of cool and fun aunt and uncle, we found out we were pregnant! Once again there were lots of tears but these were tears of joy. And again another unexpected journey as we navigated pregnancy and becoming new parents during a pandemic. I so desperately wanted to document our journey but the world was shut down. I decided this would be the perfect time to pick up my camera and learn how to take pictures. The pictures of my son were some of the first, worst, and most treasured photos I have ever taken. Of course I have grown since then and became published photographer; however, my son remains my mission.
Allie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Struggling to conceive then going through pregnancy during COVID gave me a heart for maternity clients and supporting women in general. I specialize in boudoir, maternity, and wedding photography. My goal is to empower women, make them feel special, and remind them they are loved. Our boudoir clients have the option to add on hair and make up, a massage, custom lingerie, professional studio, and a photo album. One of our most recent ventures is a journey to health album. This album includes three 30 minutes sessions documenting your life before, during, and after your transformation. It’s a motivation to stick to your new lifestyle and celebrate your accomplishments. What stands us apart is our ability to build confidence, empower others, and allow our clients to love themselves again.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for me has been referrals. I attend several networking groups, am involved in the community, and love to meet new people wherever I go.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
We did not build capital the correct way as we used all of our credit cards. I would not recommend this approach to anyone as no one wants to go into debt. I am very thankful that we were able to pay off every card and today we are debt free. My biggest advice is to save your money. Work hard now to save as much money as you can and grow your capital organically.
