We were lucky to catch up with Allie Lyttle recently and have shared our conversation below.
Allie , appreciate you joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
Lala’s Too is named after me – my brother couldn’t say my name (Allie) when he was younger so he called me Lala. He and my Mom still call me Lala so we felt like it would be a fun & funky name for our business!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I entered the hospitality industry when I was a 19 year old nursing student — I needed a job to pay my bills & started working in a local restaurant. I never realized you could work as a Chef for a career. I come from a long line of folks with very practical jobs – chemist, police officer, engineer, etc – and trades weren’t ever something discussed in my home. I had always loved food and had a passion for cooking and once I realized I could do that forever nursing school was over for me. My Mom cried for a year and now we own Lala’s Too together. Life is pretty funny that way.
Lala’s Too is a grab & go elevated comfort food destination. We bridge the gap for folks who want great food fast but don’t want soggy restaurant take out boxes.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth is huge for us!
Any advice for managing a team?
I believe strongly in servant leadership. I, as the owner, will never ask anyone to do anything that I wouldn’t do myself. I often take the hardest / most challenging jobs myself so my staff know that I am right there hustling along side them.
