We were lucky to catch up with Allie Jade Sinbine recently and have shared our conversation below.
Allie Jade, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
I love being a business owner . I can’t say that there aren’t times where i don’t miss being a regular w2 employee though. Taxes , business responsibilities, insurance and benefits ; so many adult responsibilities that would be much easier if I was just a salary employee instead of a business owner . However, at the end of the day it’s all worth it . I’m the moment i miss the simplicity but I’m the bigger picture view I would give it all up all over again to be where I am today. Nothing beats looking at my shop at the end of the evening knowing how hard we worked to be at the top and it’s beyond rewarding and worth every bit of adult hurdle
Allie Jade, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into the hair industry a bit later, I went to school at 29. I was working a corporate sales job and doing well for myself but my soul wasn’t getting what it needed . I looked into cosmetology school but left it on the back burner . One late night on a whim I enrolled in the program and sent a letter of resignation to my boss and never looked back. It’s been the best decision of my life. God and life blessed me with a talent and I’ve been so fortunate to be able to build a career out of it. I’ve always been self driven and motivated and i come from a family full of entrepreneurs so this path was almost like my destiny.
I always dreamed of owning my own business but never thought I’d be here and I’m so proud that i walked away from the “settling” vibes of working for someone else and leaped off the cliff to chase my dreams.
I blessed to be able to help people embrace their hair goals and dreams and feel as beautiful on the outside as they are on the inside . I get to help bring every brides wedding dreams come true when she sits back on her wedding day and see her hair and makeup of her bridal dreams.
This has been the most fulfilling professional journey I could imagine being on !
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
I met my cofounder:business partner years before we both became hairstylists. She’s 7 years younger than me and was good friends with my little sister in high school. I used to cart the girls around to concerts and baseball games, never knowing back then where We would be today. Years later she went to hair school and shortly after so did I. We chatted as i went in on advice as i started school. A few weeks into school she reached out to me checking in and asked how i was liking it and learning wedding hair (updos are some of the first things you learn in styling ). I told her I loved it and she said “cool! Want to do a wedding with me for a girl i know?” And that was it. We started our wedding hair journey. 9 months after I was licensed and working in a salon an opportunity came up for the two of us to go into a salon suite together and so we left our respective salons and moved into the suite together. Almost 5 years later we are now the proud owners of a booth rental salon with 3 girls working for us and the owner of a travel on site bridal hair and makeup company with a team of 6 artists and we’ve done weddings all the way from the keys to north Florida , the caribbean, Tennessee and even Rhode Island. We are even now both having our first child together as we are both pregnant with little boys and about to grow our families and maybe even raise them up to be little barbers themselves !
We are truly living our best lives and best friends and business owners !
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I was older when i decided to go to hair school. I was 29 and had left behind a solid corporate sales career with benefits and retirement and PTO to chase a dream offering none of the benefits above . I was in a bad relationship at the time with partner who didn’t support my dreams .
I struggled with my mental health because of it but kept pushing through to graduate and then work on building a clientele. I finally found the strength to leave my bad relationship, and focused on my work. I let my now husband and he was so supportive of my career as a stylist. I pushed through and really reinvented myself and i have crossed off every goal I’ve set for myself professionally. It’s been a humbling and rewarding experience.
