We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Allex Redd. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Allex below.
Hi Allex, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Being a Tattoo Artist I find myself working on meaning pieces on almost an everyday basis. People come from all over the country putting their faith in my ability to create something for them that they feel embodies who they are as a person, help them express how they feel inside, maybe heal from something they’ve experienced or to hold onto a memory they don’t want to forget. Everyday I find myself being so invested in the reasons for their request and the stories the people I tattoo have to tell. Like getting a reminder to continue on and keep going; living life to the fullest despite all the trauma and pain you’ve been through. You learn how even some of the strongest people need a word of encouragement
sometimes.
You learn how important someone’s faith and beliefs are and how meaningful those words can be. Such as a line from their favorite scripture to guide them through life or a prayer that empowers them to be better everyday. Even their religious symbols can be the inspiration they need to grow and proper, sometimes after a session you even feel like you’ve changed a bit as a person with them.
Honestly I can say being an artist is a lifelong project in itself because we are constantly submerging ourselves into the feelings and lives of others. Attempting to tell countless stories, perspectives and experiences one tattoo at a time.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
So to be honest it kind of just happened, I never really planned on becoming a tattoo artist, the universe just aligned itself to lead me into it. All I will say is I was living a life that I shouldn’t have and through the grace of God I was able to find a way out. Now I’m lucky enough to be a successful and established artist for the past 8 years. I do all different types of styles from old school traditional tattoos to more advanced projects like portraits. I have the technical know how to fix tattoos that may need work or even coverup old tattoos when a client is needing something more dramatic. I’m also able to do either black & grey or color as well so there’s nothing really out of my range when it comes to tattooing.
If I had to brag on anything it would definitely be my line work and how steady my hands are, I like to think I have the hands of a surgeon. But I pride myself on being very versatile and able to adapt to whatever my clients vision may be but also having the ability to help them effectively translate their ideas properly when the thoughts aren’t as clear.
I try to give my clients/followers/fans a vibe they can be themselves around and a piece of art they can be proud of.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I’ve built my following by being consistent with sharing my work and my processes. Everything I work on I try to share in some capacity to everyone. Over time it builds and compounds on day at a time you just have to keep going.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I believe society can support artist and creatives better by helping shed light on their work. Sharing post, commenting and engaging on their profiles, even word of mouth can be extremely helpful it’s doesn’t always have to be financial support but that does help too.
